Use Defiler Rules for it and Orkify it? Not anymore, according to the newest Ork Codex. Orks CAN Loot other armies vehicles, but they get assigned a specific profile in the newest codex.. and it isn't a kind one.

In OLDER edition Ork armies you sure could! ... And..

there is NOTHING that says you cannot convert one, make your own rules and point values for it.. and then talk about it with your opponents and ask them to approve it for use in the game. It does mean that you will be doing a lot of explaining, but you are allowed to use stuff with opponents consent. Heck.. whatever backstory and fluff for it you write could be the convincing factor..

I know I would love to play against something like that, modelwise.. as long as it is appropriatly costed.

Over on DakkaDakka.com there is a chap who modeled and converted a Looted Carnifex.. very impressive!

Heck... Even better...There's another guy over there who looted a SOUL GRINDER!
He sculpted a HUGE Ork torso and put it in place of the Daemon torso. It's cool.

Back on track, however... Like Pork says. You CAN loot it, but you can NOT use it as a Defiler.

It uses the generic profile of "Looted Wagon" for 35 points. I can't give you all the specifics without infringing on copyrights, but I can give you a few.
You'd move like a tank (6" to 12" movement) You could take a "Wrecking Ball" and "Grabbin Claw" (Which you'd proxy with his claws for "counts as"). It can carry up to 12 models (LOL) or take a Boomgun (36" S8 AP3 Ordnance 1). It's armor is... SIMILAR to a Rhino.

It's not too expensive for what it is, but you give up a Heavy Support slot for it and it's not really better than a Trukk (except that you can buy the big honking gun for it - Which triples its' price, though, BTW).

Why not just give it to me? I need one, anyway.

Another option is instead of using it as a Looted Wagon, is to Orkify it and call it a Battle Wagon. There are no specific guidelines as to what a Battle Wagon looks like, as each Mek will make one with whatever parts he's got on hand. Plus a Battle Wagon has better stats, gets big gunz and retains it's transport capability of 20 Orks. The looted wagon looses it's transport capability if you give it a boom gun. You can still give it the upgrades that MM suggested as well. Though it's way more expensive.

Yeah... I dunno.
It'd be a pretty weedy battlewagon.
Have you ever SEEN a Battlewagon? A FW one?
They DWARF Defilers.
I know that, in my group, you'd get harrassed pretty heavily if you tried to pull a DEFILER off as a Battlewagon.

..although I find the idea of a Defiler with a Deth Rolla attached to be HIGHLY amusing.

Yes actually, I just sold one to a friend of mine a couple months ago. (FW Battle Wagon) I also had a Battle Wagon that I kitbashed out of 2 side-by-side Leman Russ hulls, some plasti card, a couple of Ork trukks and some toy monster truck tires. The thing barely fit into a Sabol transport tray. All I'm saying is that with a propa Orky frame of mind you could beef up the structure in the middle and have it propelled by the Defilers legs and stuff. It would take a bit of effort, but wouldn't be too difficult to do. And you wouldn't get laughed at by other Ork players. They'd be all like, "Whoe, that's the coolest Battle Wagon I've ever seen." and you'd be all like "I know. I am aren't I. Who want's to touch me?" It's an option though.

Now you've got me wanting to Orkify a Defiler into a Battle Wagon just to prove it can be done "nice an propa"....
Hrrmm...

Everyone in my group plays Orks, and I can guarantee that a looted defiler (as opposed to defiler legs added to a huge structure) would DEFINITELY get laughed at.

First, I want to apologize for inadvertently hijacking this thread. Bad me.

Second, I accept that challenge.

It'll take me a few weeks to get the parts and get started. (I've got a painting project to finish for my local store to get done first.) MagicalMemories, where do you want the pics when I get done? Just remember it'll take a few weeks to get started. Or do you want me to try and do a tutorial on how to Orkify a Defiler for the Articles and Tutorials forum? (I'm not real good at writing articles but I could try.) I will probably list it for sale or trade here on B.T. when it's finished, as I no longer play Orks. If you want, P.M. me about where you want the pics, or tutorial, or whatever.

I wouldn't call it threadjacked.
It morphed a bit, but really... You're just showing the OP that it CAN be done. Yes? :-D

Why not do both? Post a thread on it in the "Misc Messages" forum. WIP, or when complete... Whatever suits you. When it's done, I can just copy it and submit it for an article.

I look forward to seeing it.

I will do so. When I'm done I will also post a link to this thread so that there will be a reference to what I'm raving about. Can't have people running around thinking I'm challenged, now can I?

Yeah,
This one:

But, a looted Defiler SOUNDS cool. Couldn't you use GW's vehicle constructions rules for it? As long as you are not playing in a tournament or against players who have their tightey-whitey's in a bunch... ;)

Oh, yeah.
But -for me- a well made original one, or even a poor-to-average one made from a GREAT idea, wil always trump a cookie cutter kit that just anyone can have. IMO, there are Battlewagons out there that are even better than the Forgeworld Battlewagon.

I can certainly agree with this statement. I had one I just sold recently to a friend made from two side-by-side Leman Russ hulls, old style Trukk parts and diamond plate plasticard for a bed and toy monster truck tires. The wheels were taller than a Nob, and as big as some Warbosses. And I used two Killa Kans in place of turrets. The new "Cookie Cutter" Battlewagon looks really cool, but nothing beats one of your own design. Kustom iz da bestest. When I'm able to post pics of this Defilawagon, I'll try and post one of the wheeled one I built.
