Searching for Resin Mold Kits
Does anyone know where I can pick up a Good, failrly inexpensive Resin kit. I'm looking do make some of my own custom molds and I have no clue where to start looking for a Kit. I Saw a pretty lame kit at my local craft store but it's not what I'm looking for. It only did Plaster, Rubber, and Clear Resin ...... I'm trying to find a Kit that will make the Items similar to the colors of the Forge World and Armorcast moldings. I am assuming that this kit type would be considered a "Pro" series model ?? Any Help with this is Greatly appreciated.

Re: Searching for Resin Mold Kits
Micromark (http://www.micromark.com) has all the supplies you need. Occasionally, they even bundle stuff together into various "starter kits" and sell it at a bit of a discount.
The HirstArts site, though, is full of valuable "how to" information, including details on various mold making compounds and resin brands. Brude Hirst is VERY knowledgeable and willing to share his tips and secrets. I haven't visited the site in a LONG time, but they used to have a forum there, too, that was FILLED with people who know their stuff (it's where I first heard about Bartertown, in fact).

My preference is Smooth-On. They offer sample packs for most of their resin casting systems -- great for testing a casting run.WckdJester wrote:Does anyone know where I can pick up a Good, failrly inexpensive Resin kit. Friends of mine prefer the systems found at Alumilite.
Resin casting systems you can buy through catalogs like Micro-Mark will sell systems from companies like those above under a proprietary name. They're somewhat more expensive, but you have the ease of a catolog of a lot of other cool stuff to get at the same time.
HERE can be found a tutorial on basic resin casting you may find useful.
Hope that helps!

Re: Searching for Resin Mold Kits
Actually, I know more about mold- and patternmaking. I had a pretty good practicum when I worked HERE.
As for writing for the board, I don't know....

Yes I have a bad report. Yes it was my mistake. Yes it's been resolved. The above still applies.

Ever done it? Not for anything bigger than a large dagger, and that was for personal stuff.
I was the moldmaker and wax-patternmaker for the guards and pommels for the swords, and I did cutlery work (parts finishing/sword assembly/gripping). Scabbards are done by the scabbard-maker, Aaron Schnatterly. Nice stuff, too!
