what would you call this? and how to deal with it!

Post by gordon »

I had a guy make a offer then drag it out then say he was not able to come up with money he offered and I can understand things come up but it was like pulling teeth to get responses from this guy.... it was at another site
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/po ... 14764.page

How would you call this, and how do you avoid it?

Im hoping just to get some suggestions from those who may have had something similar happen and how you deal with it
Thank you for your time
Cheers

Well considering he only posted one link, I'd say he lost interest. Keep the advert up and continue to look for another fish. Since it isn't a Bartertown trade you CANNOT post a Bad Trader Report or a Deadbeat/Backout report.

I'd tell him that he as X days to complete his portion of the deal or the deal is off.

If you've agreed on terms and such, then payment would have been expected within a reasonable amount of time.

For me, that means a maximum of 3 business days to send payment. If he doesn't do pay, then he's broken the deal.

As this is off-site, you'll have to deal with him over there.

Well, the problem is that you really CAN'T avoid it.
I mean, people will be people, and you're always going to have that.

It might not always happen to you... but they'll always be out there.

People change their mind, decide to spend their money elsewhere, think it's funny to lead people on... The list goes on.

Just don't hold anything for anyone unless they SPECIFICALLY ask you to... and, even then, put a specific time limit on it:
"Okay. I'll hold them for you until you come up with the money or for one week, whichever comes first."
Also, don't *look* so dependent on them. By your responses in your thread, it seemed to me that he was the only person who showed any interest and you REALLY wanted the sale.

Two other -norelated- pieces of advice:

1) Get better images. All we can see is that the stuff's painted and that there's a WHOLE lot of red with some black & silver.
2) This is counter-productive:
Taking offers = highest bidder takes it home so if you want this lot, YOU make the first offer. and check the forge world site before you make a silly low bid.

(emphasis mine)

If you're accepting "best offer," don't imply that some offers will be considered too low. If You say "Best Offer" and the best offer you get is $50, then you should honor it. If that isn't good enough, you should offer a price you're looking for or remove "best offer" and say, "Make an Offer." Also, give a time frame. If you're going to make it "Best offer by August 30," then say that. Otherwise, it seems as if you're saying "I'm holding on to these models until someone makes me an offer I like." With the second one, people don't know how long the "bidding" is open and, after a week or 2, might spend that money. if you come back and let them know they "won" after two weeks, you might just get a "orry, Charlie."

Oh... and you will tend to get better responses on trade oriented sites over discussion oriented sites.

Hope that helps.

Excuse me, sir.
What you just did there is called "threadjacking." Your comment was ott-topic and added nothing to the discussion.

At this time, I'd like to take a moment to remind you that Threadjacking is against Bartertown rules. Please discontinue your off-topic postings, or I shall be forced to give you a warning.

... and, besides; When did *I* ever need external encouragement? The entertainment I provide for myself is more than enough to encourage me. LOL

Indeed, and while we're on the topic of threadjacking and administrivia, I'd like to remind you that your post added nothing to the discussion, either.

In the future, I would suggest that, rather than waste everybody's time with such follow-ups, that you take it to PMs.

Gee it seems as if even the person pointing out threadjacking to someone pointing out threadjacking to someone who threadjacked is in the same boat.

As for the original problem, I took a look at the link, As long as the "auction" wasn't over then the guy could drag it out as long as he really wanted. However once that "auction" was over then time to fork up. I'm not a member of Dakka Dakka and do not know what their policy is on such things. If it were here I'd have simply shrugged and put the individual on my personal "don't even bother with" list

Pain in the arse, yup. But that is the problem you run into with "make me an offer"

..except that, as a Watchman, I'm *allowed* to go off topic to advise someone that he/she is Off Topic. Therefore, I was not off topic.

Peacie, you hit the nail on the head. DNT him and be done with it.
Dakka has an ignore feature, as well. I rather like it as it shows you THAT you're ignoring a post from someone on your list and gives you the option to look at it by clicjking on it, but you don't ahve to read it.

I only have two people on my list over there.
One because he's rude (extremely so) and the other because he's (a) NOT a native English speaker (b) dyslexic (literally) and (c) makes no effort to even TRY to check his posts for accuracy - I only understand half to 2/3 of what the guy says.

Oh... and I have NONE over here... I think. LOL

Morlock, though, is an Admin here (as you said), and should set the standard which we all follow. My reminder to him was to keep him on the straight and narrow.

Next thing you know, he'll be taking bribes!
