I understand that many, many people still care, but I'll bet those people are leaving feedback regularly, unprompted and wouldn't dream of not doing so.
My point was simply that some of the people I've experienced not leaving feedback, have a high enough rating that they don't need anymore feedback to be able to get favourable trades/conditions and they don't seem to care about community, so denying them feedback because they haven't left any, won't really affect them, and thus won't necessarily fix the problem.
The last time this thread came around the suggestion was basically hold the feedback hostage (I'll leave yours when you leave mine), and I don't think that's any better, though subtly hinting and begging/cajoling don't seem to work either.
At this point in time I'm thinking a grassroots movement to get people to sig "Don't be a douche, feedback helps everyone" might be fun.
Sadly, the qualifying persons probably wouldn't get it.

Me too.
Although, I don't agree with you about higher rated traders NOT leaving references. My personal experience has been that the higher rated traders ALWAYS leave references and normally don't even have to be reminded.
For me, it is usually the newer guys. I have had a few that I had to point in the right direction to leave references, but I don't mind at all doing that.
It really only takes a minute. I always leave a reference and I agree with our resident curmudgeon that it DOES hurt the community, but I don't think it is an offence that warrants BTR status.

I voted no. I agree with Vesrian and Eric.

Sig line changed...
Though, I edited one particular word that I personally find distasteful, and I can't stand the way it's been thrown around these last couple years.

Lower rating? You ship first.

I voted "NO", because I like to see well-defined Forums.
A Deadbeat or Backout simply isn't the same as Non-Feedback. A Deadbeat / Backout never started the trade, much less completed it to the point at which Feedback could be left (or not).
I wouldn't be adverse to seeing the Hall of Shame used to highlight those who are remiss in their Feedback obligations.
There are 4 individuals who owe me Feedback from when I first got on Btown. Some of them, I was foolish enough to leave Feedback first. Since then, I have learned NOT to leave Feedback until I know for a fact that the deal is completed, at which point I request confirmation and Feedback to be left.
I reciprocate Feedback 100%, and I assume this to be the case with any other trader with a 100+ rating. But I think it is a mistake to think that anybody doesn't care about missing Feedback. I want full credit for my trades, and that includes more Feedback for my refs.

I guess I'm just the odd man out here. I don't care about getting feedback or leaving feedback. However, if someone asks me to leave feedback or leaves feedback for me, then I do the polite thing and leave feedback for them. To me, feedback just isn't that important. All it means, is who ships first.

First, it was "you need proof" to post a bad trader refrence. Someone had to steal from you, or do something VERY VERY bad to get a public bashing.
Then, it was "If they back out", you can publicly bash them! They did not even have to rip you off, or anything, just bash away!
Now you want to make it "It was a great trade, but..." bash them if they do not leave feedback!
Does anyone else think this slippery slope you guys are on is wrong?
it reminded me of this poem...
Now please do not think I am comparing trading plastic men with what happened in WW2, it is just that these words popped in my head when I read the OP.
If you get all hot and bothered over a GOOD trade because they did not leave feedback, don't deal with them again.
Just my opinion

In Germany, they came first for the Communists, And I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Communist;
And then they came for the trade unionists, And I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a trade unionist;
And then they came for the Jews, And I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Jew;
And then . . . they came for me . . . And by that time there was no one left to speak up.

My 2 cents..
Feedback IS NOT obligatory. If someone doesn't leave feedback for you.. well.. drat, shucks, and ratzafrazz.. but don't call them out on it. Simply do whatever you want to with that trader.. (me.. a personal DNT list addition).
If both parties have received their end of things, (something that DC is great to use for).. that is it. It is COURTESY to leave feedback and let others know that the deal went well.. but it is not COMPULSORY to do so.
This is not a site for mandatory feedback.. it is a community built on trust and shared experiences. Leaving Feedback is part of that. Be a good member of the community and your conduct will speak for itself.
Personally, I do leave feedback for successful trades.. and have only once needed a jog from someone to do so. I have asked for feedback several times, as a reminder .. but if nothing happens, then nothing happens, and I go on.

2+2=5 for sufficiently large values of 2.

Great idea, changed my sig.
Trading Guidelines:
1. Lower rating ships first - even if I am purchasing.
2. If you agree to buy something, you have 72hrs. in which to pay. If payment is not received in 72hrs., I will automatically post a Non-Payment/Backout thread.
3. Refs are left upon positive receipt of goods, NEVER beforehand!
4. I accept Paypal & USPS money orders and charge for shipping AT COST. I make no profit from it.
5. I trade NIB/new models at retail.

I think this is wrong, wrong, wrong!
I always leave feedback, but I recently had a situation in which I almost didn't.
I'd prefer not to go into details, but I had a trade that was successful in all ways, except one small detail. I felt the trader did something to spite me because I asked him to ship first.
I couldn't be sure, but it irked me. I certainly couldn't leave a bad ref, I wasn't sure enough to leave a neutral, and the thought of leaving a positive really ticked me off. I was going to leave no ref at all, but in the end chickened out and left a vague positive. So he's the only person on my do not trade list.
It's situations like this that are the reason I want the choice of whether to leave feedback or not. It may never come up again, but if it does, I want to be able to decide what to do.

I am down with the feedback movement. I leave it as soon as a deal is fully completed. (i.e. the delivery confirmation on both packages shows that receipt of the goods has taken place.)
This is EXTREMELY important for me as I'm an ex-pat in Japan. Without good refs rolling most north american traders refuse to deal with me out of hand. Having a high feedback rating is the only way to breach the xenophobic nature of many b-towners. So if someone doesn't leave me feedback I get irritated.

In for the movement. Voted no for the deadbeats posting.
As much as feedback is a CRITICAL part of what sets B-Town apart from other sites, I just can't see the long term benefit in posting someone that doesn't leave feedback as a deadbeat. It could possibly end up scaring potential traders away from the site, which would obviously be a huge loss.
Anglacon - Well put with the quote. Agreed that it should in no way be comparing the two situations, but the quote is very appropriate.

Please do not agree to a trade with me unless you know for sure that you actually want it to happen! If you think that makes me a jerk, feel free to NOT TRADE WITH ME!

I think you're getting a little paranoid. Its not about being xenophobic, its about the extremely high cost of shipping overseas. I wouldnt care if you had a 500+ rating, if the deal wasnt greatly in my favor to make up the shipping charges,I wouldnt trade.HarlequinZero wrote:I am down with the feedback movement. Take two trades for the exact same minis- 1 costs you $5 to ship, the other costs you $25 to ship. Which is better?
Anyway....
yeah, leave feedback....
