Who is Jason Ticknor?

Post by titan136 »

Excuse my ignorance but there's been a lot of mention of a fellow by the name of Jason Ticknor on these forums and all of it was bad.

Can anyone give me a brief rundown of who this person is (assume he's a bad trader) and what he did to get one everyone's bad-side?

This is both for general knowledge and so that I don't accidentally trade with him in the future.

Thanks

I don't know much about Jason Ticknor either, but from what I have seen I am surprised that his name hasn't graced the new Hall of Shame.

I think a LOT of the information about Ticknor and his thievery was lost when Bartertown made the switch over.

It would be nice to see more information about him.

Jason Ticknor...

::begin nausea::

He was a trader who haunted this place -and others- numerous times under various guises. He had stuff shipped to various WI locations: Greendale, Greenfield, Milwaukee...
He had stuff shipped to his parents home, a girlfriend's home, a local game store... more places, I think.
He'd do a few good trades to get some ref's, then run about 10 scams at once. He was slick. He was crafty. He was hard to catch, at first.

He ended up being caught by the law numerous times. He always gave numerous stories (including one about going into the army). With legal assistance, MOST people got their stuff back from him.

He'd disappear for a while, then reappear & do it all over again. AFAIK, it's been a while since he's haunted these halls.

It wasn't just here, either.

Not ALL of these links are about him but, if you look through them, you'll be able to tell which ones are. Click on some & you'll see all KINDS of good stuff about him.

All kinds of gaming sites have been hit by this carreer scammer.

My advice (Sorry, WI) is to be extra careful when dealing with low ref traders out of WI (Say, anyone 20 or less). Not everyone who is in WI is him, but -as I said- he's crafty. A little prevention goes a long way.

He's the bastard (pardon my colorful language) that has cost me 2 trades because people are hesitant to trade with folks from Milwaukee and it's surrounding areas.
Just another reason I need to move out of this darned city.

Well, I'm glad to see you're keeping some humor about it, at least.

Sucks, though. One bad apple and all that.

Just keep plugging away.

In those trades, did you offer to ship first? Just curious.

No worries. I can understand people's hesitation to deal with a new trader, let alone a new one from the Milwaukee area (Thanks Ticknor).
I attributed the trade backouts to "skit-ish" traders, as I made sure to offer up any information (including my phone number and UPS tracking numbers) that would set their minds at ease.
But hey, if it wasn't for those back-outs, I probably wouldn't have gotten to make trades with two of the folks that I have since traded with, and thus far, my trade experiences have gone great.

I realize being a new trader, you are looked at with a bit of skepticism until you have proven yourself reliable, but the last thing I (or other new traders need) is some jack-hole like Ticknor giving my "brats and kraut" smelling city a bad name.
Folks like Ticknor make people like myself (infrequent traders, from Milwaukee no less) have a slightly harder time earning a good reputation, as we don't have 50+ trades to back up our good name and live in a city known for a big time con artist.
But hey, what can you do, other than laugh about it and spend an extra few minutes to make sure people know that you are not that guy.
