I hear ya, dude. I taught public high school for a couple years. It's always the same thing: "I'm sorry, I won't EVER EVER do it again, please don't punish me" etc.
@ everyone else.
As you know, the moderators have a special ITL feedback option available to them. It sacks the user with a -1000 ITL score. We call it the Mod-Nuke.
You may also find it interesting to note that a recent study discovered that key elements of teenaged brains - specifically relating to impulse control and cause-effect thinking - are typically under-developed, and remain so until around the age of 21. I'll have to dig that study out to cite it, but from a developmental psychology point of view it helps me understand why I did so much stupid shee-yat that "seemed like a good idea at the time."
That said, here's what we're going to do about Brinkosanity and Mad-Dog. I will ask Adam to remove All their (+) references. I will leave each of them a -10 negative reference explaining the situation. I will move this thread, probably to the Bad Trader forum, and lock it there. Finally, I will suspend their accounts for two weeks starting later today.
Of course, there is the obvious provision that if either of you are *ever* caught breaking *any* site rule again, I'm sacking you with the -1000 and kicking you off the site. For clarity, I do mean *any* site rule. I recommend you read them all very carefully and ask me any questions you have regarding interpretation.

What are you talking about!?Torrero wrote:you are really being quite harsh yet... Nothing really happened yet!
Give it a week or two, ill see if the stuff comes :@
Regardless of any possible trades they have going, Brink and Mad_Dog are both guilty of MAJOR rules infractions (ref bumping, not reading the rules, possible multiple accounts, etc.), they/he are lucky they got off with just having their (false) refs deleted and a minor suspension.
If you're worried about contacting them, you should be communicating via email and/or phone. If they are a good trader, then you should have no worries.
Why are you defending their actions?
Trading Guidelines:
1. Lower rating ships first - even if I am purchasing.
2. If you agree to buy something, you have 72hrs. in which to pay. If payment is not received in 72hrs., I will automatically post a Non-Payment/Backout thread.
3. Refs are left upon positive receipt of goods, NEVER beforehand!
4. I accept Paypal & USPS money orders and charge for shipping AT COST. I make no profit from it.
5. I trade NIB/new models at retail.

They are not being harsh at all... if it were me i would ban them... just wait till you do get ripped off.. and we will see how you feel about it.. if it were not for the people on bartertown who watch out for scammers and frauds.. and yes what they or he /she did is a scam and a act of fraud... this board would not exist.. except for scammers ripping each other off...
why did you even start this topic anyway.. it looks to me like you had every intention of trading with him in the first place... you have defended them the whole way.. and apparently you don't feel that its wrong to post fake references.. your digging yourself a deeper and deeper grave with each passing comment...
at this point even if you do get your items.. I wont believe that it was not their intention to rip people off... all i'll believe is they got caught so they figured that they would do the right thing this time in hopes of ripping the next person off... once you blow someone's trust.. you just don't say "I'm sorry" and get it back... I'M SORRY DOESN'T MEAN *edit*.. all it means is you got caught... and next time they will figure out a different way so not to get caught, they new it was wrong... they did it anyway.. I personally think lin is going very light on them... I could go on a huge rant now about how kids are being raised in a non punishment environment.. (in fact i did but erased it) but this isn't the place...

Brink
Maddog
Added to will not trade list:
Multiple accounts
14+ False trade references to each other.
Torerro (SP?)
Added to will not trade list:
Sticking up for said scammers
Not someone I would like to conduct a trade with.
Thank you Torerro for bringing these accounts to our attention, even thouygh the outcome was not what you expected. The 3 of you have been added to my list of no trades no matter what. This whole site relies on honesty and integrity. The first 2 clowns obviously have neither and Torerro obviously doesn't "get it".
Thank you to those of you who spotted this crap.
Thanks to Lin for taking action.
May all your future trades be on the up and up.

well, if i re-read the begining of this topic correctly... it starts with him asking then within 2(3)? maybe hours went forward with only 2 reply's to the question. i'm not sure i would have with darksoul's being the 1st reply and him having some 554 FB but possibly he was also in contact with brink at that time from the sound of it.
It was only AFTER he had committed to the trade that we all started in on him and pointing all of this out.
though given, i personally would not have done it, i dont see resembalance in the way that he come off to that of brink and mad-dog.
personally i'd say he is a different user.
Involved? No idea.
Would I make him send first? with his 0 FB and my 98 you bet.
does that make me bad? i dont think so.
But i do believe that he started this thread with genuine interest in the OP.
my 2cents.

I have been watching this thread develop since Darksoul added his first post. I found it a little hard to believe that Torrero ignored several experienced Bartertowners and went through with a trade that was dubious at best.
I agree with you Flagg, that Maddog/Brink are OFF of my trade list. As for Torrero, I think he/she would have some work to do before I would even consider it. Certainly, he would ship first. But, apparently, he will do this with bad traders so I don't see any reason he wouldn't do it with legitimate traders.
Unless the whole thing was a sham, a schoolboy's prank.
Darksoul, I couldn't agree more with your observations on the youth of today. If kids can get away with everything without punishment, then what is there incentive to do the right thing....
Ugh. What a mess this thread has been.
I would say that you live and you learn, but with Brink/Maddog's attitude I certainly doubt it.
I think the admin's have been a little lenient here, but that is just me.
