Is it possible to duplicate old method of "reading" posts?

Post by montaa »

Under the old system, a post was considered read as soon as one looked at a page that had the topics listed. It might have even been tied to loging in and closing the browser window.

I was wondering if this was possible to duplicate in this new system. From my understanding i need to click on each post to get it to be shown as "read." Has anyone had any luck recreating the former method?

For the sake of argument, lets say I never look at PMs during the weekend

If there are threads you don't want to read, but don't want to show as unread, either, just use the "Mark Topics read" action. It's near the top of the page, right above the list of topics, on the right hand side.

I do that with the whole site after reading everything I want to. Works like a charm. I HATED the old way because, if I missed something, I had to go back & search for it by scanning the "last post" date on the right. Now, I just have to look for the red circle.

I think what this situation needs is some imagination.
