Proposal: Basic Intelligence test on Bartertown Sign Up
At least that way we would avoid those people who :
a) cannot or
b) will not
look at the location of a fellow member before agreeing a trade.
Just had another person who did not realise that posting to "Tenerife SPAIN" requires a willingness to post outside of their own little universe.
The damn profile section shows it as does the sidebar of every single one of my posts.
<--------
Another waste of time sorting through boxes of model bits, finding current retail prices, checking condition of said bits/models to agree a trade which then gets canned when I send my postal address through.
"Sorry for the Inconvenience" he says. My response was a little less polite and I have to admit did question his basic literacy skills as well as his parentage. Now I can see why so many users have personal do not trade lists.
OK, rant over. Just felt a need to get that off my chest.

Here is the problem with that....
Alot of members do NOT list their location. It should be required. I shouldnt have to do detective work. Your location should be right under your name with your post count. You location is there Robh, so i dont see what the problem is.....
My problem with some members (mostly new ones) is they do not reply to PMs. It is common courtesy, to at least reply- "No." or "Not interested." I try to remember the names of such individuals so I do not trade with them in the future. Thats wh I would love to see a type of "ignore" or "Block" function to weed out such losers & time-wasters

(I'm serious here)
Robh, you're right.
Let me ask a question.
Before the person found out your address, did they agree to a deal?
If so, then they probably qualify for a post in the backouts section (with one exception).
Does their sig line contain something about not trading (and I quote), "outside of their own little universe?" That would be the exception. If it does, then the blame is 50/50 (as you should have been expected to see that as much as he should have seen your location).
My guess is "no," though, because most traders don't put that info in there, regardless of how they feel (me being one of them).
So, going on the assumption that you have a legitimate rant here, the individual qualifies for a neutral ref and a post in the backout forum if:
1) A trade agreement was met
2) You don't feel his excuse for not trading with you was valid
and
3) Even when given a "second chance" at completing the trade he agreed to in good faith, he declines or ignores you.
If all 3 of those are met, you should (IMO), consider a neutral ref & "backout" post.
I suggest going to the thread and reading the rules before making your final decision. Don't, simply, take my word for it.

Lower rating? You ship first.
Give me a sense of humor Lord. Give me the grace to see a joke.
To get some humor out of life and pass it on to other folk.
I think what this situation needs is some imagination.

Want my help with a BTR or backout? All messages sent/posted should be in CHRONOLOGICAL order. Otherwise, I just won't read it.

this forum should be restricted to the US only by god!
make it nice and simple... USA, USA, USA!
not really, i think i brought this up a long time ago that location should be part of the sign up process. of course after i brought it up someone pointed out to me that i didnt have my location entered... go figure...

I'm still pretty sure that Spain is part of the US. Isn't it just north California or something? There's a lot of states out there that i've never heard of.usernamesareannoying wrote:this forum should be restricted to the US only by god!

Seriously though, i can imagine this type of thing sucks.
robh, you might want to consider adding a politely worded sig saying you're not in the US and that traders need to be willing to ship internationally. Yeah, you've already got it listed in the location, but it can't hurt to have it twice. Hopefully having it listed right under the ad will increase the number of people who see it and cut down on the number of times this happens in the future.
I do want to add that i think pursuing this as a deadbeat trader issue or leaving a neutral ref is overkill. Then again, i don't have to deal with this sort of issue with any frequency. Maybe after having it happen to me half a dozen times i might change my mind

LOL... You mentioned someone who might fail an intelligence test - of course i think it's an American. :) I guess i failed the patriot test.robh wrote:You know what makes it worse....all you guys assume I am talking about a Yank.
But actually no, this shortsighted, academically challenged individual (see giving him benefit of the doubt) was in UK.
I mean to say, come on, just how many UK to UK only trades go on here!
But really, if you're not a US citizen, what's your excuse for not checking the location? At least when i do something dumb around my international friends i say, "I'm American, what did you expect?".
Still, i think mentioning your location in your sig might help. This "global economy" idea is just starting to reach the masses. If you're not already dealing with people outside your area, it's hard to get used to the idea of trading with people from another country. That's why i disagreed with the deadbeat reporting. It's probably an honest (though easily avoidable) mistake.

I dont think its a "back-out" really. There has to be a "meeting of the minds" and a solid deal struck. But we'd have to know the exact messages exchanged.
I dont deal out of the Country if I can help it. WHY? Because most people dont want to pay the outrageous shipping costs. If Im selling at a discount, Im not going to "eat" the shipping charges too. If you trade, even then the shipping is prohibitive. In some trades you could buy the minis for what you paid in shipping.
Everyone should have their location, or at least their Country clearly marked.
P.S. If you dont return PM's you are a #$^%$#^@!@!!!!
