the only place I knew was ebay.. some people sell like 50 for like $5-10.. I thought that was expensive. then I went to a store.. they only had larger than what I wanted.. and they were like $5-10 for 4.. I could be off on what I saw on ebay.. I havent looked in a while.. but ebay is probably your best bet.. or search on google... thats what I'd do.

I don't use rare earth magnets to stick flyers to bases...I use barrel clasps for home made jewelry that you can get like 20 of them for 97 cents at Wal Mart. Other than that there's no use for them since they're too strong to use on the bases of your figs without tearing them up so you're better off just using sheet magnets for those. Anyways that's my 2 cents for the day

I am using them to put in the arms of ogres to be able to euip them with different weapons. Was going to use them on a few other things too with the same sort of idea.

Hi Members,
I just ordered my second lot of 500 rare earth magnets from an eBay source. They were roughly 1/16" thick 1/4" round disks with N35 pulling power. N35 is plenty of pulling power and if you don't glue them strongly enough to the underside of the WFB infantry square it will pull off.

Infact, because they are so strong what you can do is glue them to the top of the base and let the flock cover it up.

I troll both amazingmagnets and K&J Comparable pricing but K & J offers a variable amounts to be bought while Amazing offers it in units in multiples of x.

For example If i only need 10 1/8 x 1/32 disks, K & J can do it, i have to buy them in 100 counts at Amazing

I will throw my hat in behind Amazing Magnets, they ship quickly and their site is easier to navigate than most others.

I've used K&J for my modelling magnet needs, and am a repeat customer of theirs. Buy them in significant #s: its the best bang for the buck, and once you start adding the magnets to the minis you'll want to keep doing it over and over again.

As well as where to buy them, what sizes does everyone recommend for various purposes? Say Dread or Sentinel weapons? Or Space Marine arms?

I don't do to many arms, as for marines I like to have tons of them (heck my sally squads have roughly 15 men apiece (based on 2 different configurations))

For standar weapon mounts (eldar grav platforms, warwalkers, Tau suits...) I've used the 1/8" dia. x 1/32" thick ones.
For vehicle mounts I've been using from K & J's overstock pile
6mm dia. x 1.5mm thick (shave the flight stand and recess a small hole on the model bottom, only once have I had a bad tilt, but I was able to fix it.

I haven't done any tank sponsons yet. While I have several tanks sitting in my waiting shelf I have little time to actually put things together. I mainly play small games so I use mostly infantry and dreds. (the 6mm ones work find for dreds btw, then again I don't have any metal dreds I've tried em on.)

The 1/16" x 1/32" are what I use in marine arms/fists, personal weapons, and backpacks/jump packs. I also use that size for the vehicle accessories like searchlights, smoke launchers, plastic sentinel weps, etc.
I've used the 1/16" x 1/16" , 1/8" x 1/32" and 1/8" x 1/16" for plastic dread arms, sponson mounts and metals (biker torsos, sentinel weps et al); I've tried using the smaller size but it doesn't have enough magnetic pull to keep it firmly attached - it will still stick together, but if someone farts on the other side of the room it will fall off. If you're doing the N-S vertically, then the small ones work fine; if you're going parallel to the horizon the larger/powerful ones are needed.

Probably my only word of caution on magnets is this: when the Empire State Handgunners/Crossbowmen came out, I rushed to get one ($22 + tax) and immediately started drillin for the weapon swaps and swapping all the pieces available like the three banner tops. $25 in magnets later, I still don't have all of the rifles and xbows and arms done - I could have saved the time and money just buying another box set (or cheaper magnets for that matter) and I'm too bummed $$-wise to bother to finish them. Since then I've just magnetized the Special Weapons guy and the unit Champion.
