Can anybody tell me about Skylanders?

Post by Adunaphel »

Hello Fellow Bartertowners,

At the local toy store today, I saw a setup for Skylanders and I was wondering if some Bartertowners had experience with it?
With four children, it looked like something they could get into. But, it was kind of hard to tell even what type of game it is.

So, if anybody has the game, let me know what you think of it.

Thanks!!!

Karl

Simple platformer crossed with collectibility like Pokemon. 1-2 players only, but you can switch out your character anytime. We enjoy it.

You buy the starter kit which comes with the game, the portal and three figs. As you put the figs on the portal, they show up in the game. Each fig is essentially a memory card which records its stats, upgrades, money, etc. You can then take those figs and play them on somebody else's game and your guy shows up with all the stuff stored in its memory.

Warning: Its like crack for kids. And adults. <shame>

My roomate (who is 26) owns every single Skylander and has even pre-ordered the new one that come out in Oct. I figured it up, he has over $400 bucks worth of these things. It amazes me how much like crack this game is.

A little creative editing:

My son got hooked on that at Xmas time, still playing with it.
i tried and i failed as i'm pretty bad at video games unless it involves a skateboard or soccer ball....

As far as i can see, the image of it being a virtualize version of Pokemon with plateform gaming is kind of close. My wife had fun too with the game...

I've always thought the Skylanders platform was a great idea, Wait until Forza or any sports game starts doing it. Then I can take my best car/player to your house load up and go VS..that would be awesome for sports/fighting games

Background on me: I worked for a company for almost 9 years. I wont plug them. We were closed and reopened as the other division. Up until late January, I had no care about skylanders. Now, since I was transfered, I have to deal with them. I survived Pokemon, Beyblades, Furby 1, PS2 system launch, XBOX launch, 360 launch and others along the way. Now I get this. The rules are different for me with a 4 month old and I need to know more about the stuff in my store. Skylanders is where I have no clue whats going on. I have questions and would greatly appreciate any help from BT.

Which figures work on which game?

Whats the difference between the figures?

What systems is this game on?

Thanks!
In an act of kindness and respect, please respond to PMs one way or the other with in a timely manner.
Im sorry but I do not ship outside the US.

So do a quick summary:

Which figures work on which game?:
Series 1 and 2 will work on Skylander Giants while Serie 2 figures will only work on Skylander Giants. All series 1 figures will work with Skylander Adventure

Whats the difference between the figures?
there's 3 types of figures:
-Normal characters: which are then divided into different factions
-Giant Characters: right now: 1 per faction
-game add-on: small accessories that can be attached to characters for in-game bonus. Some of those also give access to new levels in the game.

Then some limited edition models do exist, they have increases powers compared to their normal alter-ego.

What systems is this game on?
Xbox, PS3, Wii, WiiU, DS, Ipad, PC,as far as i remember

Adunaphel....I got the Skylanders giant bundel for the boy on XBOX and he now has like 10 guys he as bought with his allowance. The game looks really fun and he invites friends over with their guys to play all the time.

Good family game...no "real" violence in that there is no blood..they are all creatures fighting each other. (read that to mean it's not Mortal Combat or a FPS)

I think it is one of the better games he has bought, it teachs him about saving his money cause I don't buy him the extras he does, and I can walk away from him playing it and really not worry about what he is seeing TBH.

Not completely accurate.

All of the "small" figures will work with both Skylanders and Giants, regardless of which they were released with. Giant figs only work with Giants. The "old" versions of the figs can now level up to 15 but don't get any of the new powers that the "new" versions of them have.

There's normal characters from Skylanders 1
There's normal characters from Skylanders 2 which are like the versions from 1 but come with "wowpow" power unless...
Its a light core version, which has lightcore powers and glow on the portal.
There's the Giants, then there's the addons

And then there's the almost complete collection of Skylanders (original) that I'll probably be posting soon. Almost complete in that we have at least 1 of every character except for Whamshell.
