Very cool looking models.
I'm already seeing that there's some SERIOUS conversion possibilities for those who don't want metal Harlequins.

I'm picking up my codex this weekend then, after deciding what core units I want, placing a nice big order.

Heh heh heh..fathar Nurgle sent you his 'blessings'. Guess you aren't supposed to be touching DE, just CSM and deamons.

I got the DE Codex.

Ive been thinking about an unusual Dark eldar army- no Wyches of any kind.

Archon, Trueborn, Incubi, Kabalite Warriors, Scourges, Ravagers. Ive always liked Drazhar, so probably him too.

Although I won't make it my FIRST army, I'm looking into the following 2000 point force:

Urien Rakarth
Archon

4 units of wracks in raiders (or was it 5? Did the math in my head earlier today & can't remember, now).
3 units of (4) grotesques in raiders. Urien joins one group, Archon joins the other.
--As for the third? We hope against the rolling of a "1." LOL

That's just the basics. Everything that can has some upgrades, of course.

Dunno... 7 Dark Lances in a fast as heck army who ALL start with Feel no Pain (Urien and the unit with him will be FNP & Furious Charge). Plus, Urien has the d3 Pain Tokens to dish out.
Seems like it could be a WICKED army, provided you don't have the initiative stolen!

First free token goes to the Archon. If there are 2nd and 3rd tokens, they go to Wracks. LOL

I put together a Dark Eldar list.
Honestly, I'm not sure it's something I'd play regularly, but I do find it quite interesting.

It's a very different kind of army for me. Barring the 7 Dark Lances, there aren't any anti-tank shots.
I know that there are certain lists that will give this one a hard time, but I'm looking for a "get there fast, get stuck in, and hit hard" list.

HQ:
Urien Rakarth

Haemonculus x 2
---Each has Elec. Whip, Stinger Pistol, Animus & Soul Trap

Each of these will attach to a Grotesque unit (3x as below)

Elite:
Grotesques (4)
---Each has 1 Liquifier & a Raider with Night Shields & Flickerfield

Troops:
(4x as below)
Wracks (10)
Liquifier x2 & an Acothyst with Agonizer.
Raider with Grisly Trophies, Night Shields & Flickerfield.

Again, the idea is to get them in fast.
The whole army has FnP.
Additionally, the 3 Grotesque units, due to the attached Urien & 2 Haemon's will have FnP & Furious Charge.

Urien's generated d3 tokens can be used to also make up to 3 Grotesque/HQ units Fearless, or to bring Furious Charge to up to 3 units of Wracks.
As the Haemons have the Animus, they'll have the ability to add tokens to their units every time they kill a model. So, it's probably a better use of tokens to give them to the wracks. I just feel sorry for the poor wrack unit(s) left behind with only 1 token to start.
LOL

I added the Soul Traps as a last minute expenditure, as I had 20 points left over. I contemplated taking off the Flickerfields or Night Shields from all of the Raiders to put ina Cronos for Pain Tokens, but they'd QUICKLY leave him behind. He didn't fit with the theme.

Thoughts?

Why cant Eldar have such cool figures, rules & variety...
Course, the artwork and fluff in the new codex entry makes them more into 'birdmen' as opposed to jump pack equipped troops.
I think that's just stylized outfits. Ghost-something-or-other armor.

I'm curious to see what they do with the models. Other than the mandrakes, I think all the new minis are fantastic.
Nope, their wings are now biological and attached by the haemonculi. They will work like jump pack troops still, but those wings are 'real'.

Anyone have any ideas about whether GW just forgot to put the "bulky" rule on the Sslyth in the Archon's retinue? Their fluff AND stat lines suggest something similar in size to the Grotesques. However, while the Grotesques have "bulky" the Sslyth don't.

I don't think so. I think that, should we see models for both, we'll find the grotesques to be even larger.

Dude, how many models on small bases do you see with strength and toughness FIVE? Necron Lords? And they and the leaders of a race of ancient robots. These guys are just alien bodyguards.

Yeah, but we don't know that grotesques are going to be on small bases. Do we? I haven't heard anything.
They could easily be bumped to 40mm bases. Would make sense, with the "counts as 2 in a transport" thing.

Just thoughts.

I'm 99% sure Grotesques WILL be on large bases. My question is why, if they have comparable stats and supporting fluff, are the Sslyth apparently NOT on large bases with the bulky rule? Understand me now?

As I understand it, you're saying that the sslyth should be "bulky" and on large bases, based on the description of them. Yes?

All I'm asking -and I don't have an actual opinion on it, either way- is if it's possible that they're describing these things (sslyth) as "hulking, serpent-bodied warrior fiends" and grotesques as "lumbering and distorted meat-devils" (WOW! There''s an image!), while intending a size difference in them? I mean, I've never heard of Sslyth before this codex. Heaven know what they'll be like. I mean, orks are considered "hulking," and they're on 25mm bases. You know?

Just some thoughts.

Yea, but the problem I'm having is, as I said, the fact that the Sslyth have a strength and toughness of 5. That to me just screams 40mm base.

Serpents, or snakes, are very muscular (take the python for example) which can explain their strength. Serpents also have scales, which make them tough. So that explains their toughness. They don't need to be on a 40mm base just because their stats make them seem "bulky". I don't see Wraithguard on 40mm bases.
