Re: MMO Accounts/Gold/Items...why?
Just as a side note, places that "sell their time" are generally recognized businesses. They have tax ID's and so forth. If you make more than like 500$ (or something to this effect) from a business venture you are mandated to pay taxes on that money earned. If you are selling your time, without being an actual business you are basically operating an illegal business.
People who make money on Ebay, have to report that money or be libal (sp?) for tax evasion
People with internet businesses located within the U.S. have to pay taxes (not sure of other countires laws)
You cannot "sell you time" as a business off of someone elses IP as you will not be granted leave to do so (in this case as the EULA basically states)

4 Pages...
And are the pants are happy????? Not.
Why o' why (patch in Nancy Kerrigan)?
A) Because it's against the rules.
B) Because it's against the rules.
C) Because it's against the rules.
D) All of the above.
Jeesh...
You know I wanted to trade a WFB army for a cow here (ol' bessie would be more useful), but the RULES say it's a no-no. I scratched my head and asked why...
And then I realized it was something that the folks who run the site don't want to have on THEIR site.
Daggone shame, I say. But, hey... What can you do?
This thread is like GW's LOTR line... I wish it would just die, die, die!!!!

Yep and Nope.
GW did (and still does) the Lord of the Rings miniature battle game. Mongoose (Andy Chambers) did the Starship Troopers game. I don't think it's in publication any more.

I believe it is out of print. (ST that is... LotR still is, much to Karl's dismay - though I <3 the Mamuk model.) I have never seen an english copy of the rules for ST... I do have a German copy though.Adunaphel wrote:Yep and Nope.

Re: MMO Accounts/Gold/Items...why?
OK. I think I should qualify that a little. I loved the movies. I quote them a lot (I'm a "stupid fat hobbit" a LOT). I bought most of the stuff for the first movie. I didn't particularly care for the game and decided that the "Games Workshop" stuff was more interesting as far as gaming went (40K, WFB, Mordheim, Necromunda).
I DO think that some of the models are VERY nice. I have been tempted by the Witch-King of Angmar on the Fellbeast model a couple of times. The Mamuk's look fine and I really liked the Balrog and Sauron.
But, I think all of the LOTR is just hurting what GW does best. And that is it's own properties (and I hate using that word). I think the longer development times on 40K and WFB items is directly related to the time lost doing LOTR items. I would rather see GW go back and "redo" Mordheim and Necromunda (which are MUCH better games in my opinion). I am happy to see Space Hulk returning. I never played the original, but this is the kind of thing I think GW should be spending time on instead of LOTR.
There is another thread discussing this very thing (and dumbing down). I know this has nothing to do with MMO's (thank goodness), but because you called me out Crestion, I figured that I would elaborate. Plus, the pants might get angered if we keep going on this thread.
By the way, are you sure there were no rules for Starship Troopers in English? I know that the Helldorado game only has rules in French so far, but I never knew that the ST game only came with German rules...

I'd be fine with the whole LoTR line if I could use the models in my 40k or WHFB armies.

Re: MMO Accounts/Gold/Items...why?
i played and old starship troopers game back in the 80's.. and it wasn't GW or andy chambers.. don't recall who. ssi?
and as far as LotR, i was surprised that:
1) it wasn't WHFB rules, or even close. it has no formations required for movemnet, like WHFB does. all the units move as skirmishers. i figured the 40k players who complain that they're don't play fantasy because of "the movement rules are too hard' would like it. i actually like it better. i tried getting it or WHB started locally a couple times the past 2 years, but, it's either 40k or nothing.
2) it hasn't caught on better. because of what i stated above. it has 'hero' points for the named characters to use, basiclly for rerolls.

Heh, I was called a Grognard.
