You also didn't say Denny's, Applebee's, or Red Robin; so next time be a little more specific when using an analogy. TBH, a restaurant analogy is not a good analogy to begin with, when referring to trading minis.

The very fact that you needed to add the word "fast food" says enough, I think.

I think my first reply sums up my reaction here.but will add this

When I first joined here I did not have a problem shipping first, lets see someones been here awhile has traded more than me,seems logical that I ,someone with almost no refs would send first. And as I have watched the list of btr's grow seems alot of them are of low ref people getting stuff sent to them first. Oh not saying someone with a higher rating has not had btr's but its not as common. To me this site is not only to get mini's but also for the fun of it. Ive had trades with folks from the UK,Canada, even spain .

I also do not see any difference between figures exchanging hands and money for figures changing hands, either way goods are exchanged.
Might I ask,why is paypal so popular? if you look at my refs the last oh hundred are purchases Ive made here via PO MO's without fees or the other person being able to simply wipe their account clean after a deal.,,,serious question really as I don't understand paypal as it seems theres no protection,no customer service there at all.

Might be linked to why the OP is so pissy, but

Am I getting old and cratchy or are there alot of recent traders finding out how expencive this hobby is and wanting out demanding full retail for everything or higher charging high shipping, hello if it fits it ships boxes anyone?

Paypal is so popular because of the speed and convenience, mostly.
Some people like it because if the built in safety features... some of us know the truth about the safety features.

That said, let's not go off topic on this. NO b*tching intended here, but that's a topic for a different thread.

Let's stay on topic, folks. we're in this thread to discuss 2 things
1) The benefits and failings of the "lower rating ships first" policy of many traders and
2) How the OP is a butt-hurt sissy who ragequit.

Real example of how wonderfully trustworthy some new Traders are. (not all, some.) I made a deal to buy some Dwarves off a new trader with a 4 rating. He was asking $150, I offered $110+ shipping with tracking. He accepted. He said it would take a few days to ship. We agreed i would pay him as soon as I received the items.
6 days pass- I PM him to see if the items have shipped & for the tracking/DC #.

He cancelled the deal, saying someone else will now pay his (higher) asking price. I have made other purchases based on receiving his figures and passed on other deals because of him. His new rating is a -6 insted of a 4.

I've come to the conclusion that some of the newbs on here are one-hit wonders. They come on here to get rid of some figs and get a good deal, and then they are gone. These newbs could care less about their rating. I believe they think of the site as a craigslisting.

And once again more reason to trade with people who actually have a rating or require people with low ratings to send first. Even if you have someone with a 20-30 rating its means they have stuck around for a few deals and actually respect what the site is trying to do.

I agree that SOME do seem to fit this pattern. These tend to be the guys that give me a lot of grief about shipping first. I had one that just said that my trade rating was "some silly number". I try to explain what all it entails to have and keep a high rating, but sometimes it just falls on deaf ears.

On the other hand, some of my best trades of late have been with VERY new traders. In fact, I have had two recently where I was their first trade partner here and they were willing to ship first without a qualm whatsoever. So, there are newer traders out there who understand that they might be safer in trading with higher rated traders to start with.

Wait is this the same John Hwang who when rolling badly wanted to use averages for the rest of the game? Sorry this is off topic but we still laugh about that now and again. Also that when your wraithlord army was obliterated by dark lances(back in early 3rd ed) called it a draw. Man those were good times.

FWIW, I found Mr. Curtis excellent to deal with (selling & buying, as we didn't have each others trade wants).

I happen to largely agree with him about shipping before being paid, though for security reasons I often opt for (or insist on) a US Post Money Order instead of PayPal. Others mileage may vary.

I also don't believe buyers should get references - go figure ;>

Would I be right in guessing that you asked him to pay first for your items? Apparently, it was a very positive transaction. I wonder where all the rage came from in his first post...

Why would you think that? When you trade figures, you are essentially just trading away the money you spent initially. Why do some folks think that "trading" is so much different than "buying/selling"? I personally see NO difference at all. I would really like to hear your opinion on that statement.

Hmm so, you insist on USPS Money Orders. What happens when the buyer sends you one from say Walmart or a local convience store? especially after he said he'd send a USPS one? Do you return it and require USPS? Do you just cash it anyway and hope it's good? [note: ALL money orders have been conterfited or stolen. ALL.]

So, if the buyer gets a USPS MO, you don't leave him a good ref for doing that? most likely going out of his way to get one.
If the buyer gets another type and refuses to replace it, against what you've insisted on, you don't leave him any ref with a statemnet saying he didn't pay using you're prefered payment type?
Heh, I was called a Grognard. ;-)

well i had to weigh in just a bit on this although i seem to be a day late and a dollar short lol

i have just under 200 and i have been here or have trades under my name dating back to 1996...
yeah i dont have the highest rating but i have done good trades and as long as someone has around 100 i will send at same time.

as far as sending first with someone if you dont like it dont trade with them who cares... if someone is gonna cry about having to send first go sit in the corner with your blankee and suck your thumbs.
NO ONE is forcing anyone to use this site and if you dont like it im sure you can find better deals buying off games workshop site because they give such great prices out to their loyal customers.

there are a bunch of high rated people on here and its just like ebay.. i have a 717 rating on ebay and guess what... i would expect people on there to be weary about buying stuff from me if my rating was low on there too.

well anyway i know this was late post and the bashing started without me ;( haha

have a good one everybody
