For years I've had a "I no longer ship outside the US for trades or sales" policy. If the deal is really good, I will consider shipping to Canada, and then it must be a really good deal.

My mother-in-law is in Toronto and regularly ships packages to our children. About 3 out of 7 or 8 packages have been searched by customs, and items that were listed on the customs paperwork were no longer in the package. My mother-in-law even confirmed that she definitely shipped the items. Now if this was on the Canadian or US side, no idea.

Wow, that's horrible. I never have problems with stuff going missing, but Japanese post searches pretty much everything. They're fast though. Robot like even.

Also, as far as I know, pretty much nothing gets searched on the outbound leg of international posting. Only the destination country checks things for contraband or customs violations. So if your stuff is going missing between the US and Canada I would hazard a guess that it's happening in the US.
