When broken down to cost over time the $50 tag is easier to stomach. However, when you buy a $50 book and in 2-3 months have to start printing FAQ and adments because GW dosent prof-read their stuff it really get annoying. Take the newest White Dwarf. You have one?? Ok I'll wait for you to get it.... Ok turn to page 15. Bottom picture. See the biker in front of the heavy bolter. Nice left hand. I paid $10 for the issue and GW has a biker with no left hand?????
If you dont like GW's prices look around. Indy shops tend to sell at discounts, trade off your old stuff, scratch build and proxy till it works are all viable options to buying fresh and new.

"Codexes are too expensive" and "I do not care to pay [the price they want] for the content of new GW codexes" are synonymous, if you're taking it from the p.o.v. making the statement. Note my addition to the second statement. You see, it's not that I don't want to pay for them. I don't think the value is there for the content they provide.TheRhino wrote:lol, it's all relative.MagickalMemories wrote:If I sell you a shoelace that will last 5 years, would you pay me $50 for it?
For me, WHAT we get in these codices is not worth $10 a year.
Eric
The argument here should not be "Codexes are too expensive!", it should be "I do not care to pay for the content of new GW codexes." Cost is relative from person to person. I think shelling X dollars for a ski lift ticket is foolish, as it's 24 hours of sliding down a hill in the cold. That skiier might think the $50 I spent on a codex is foolish, as it's a book for little army men.
It's just a pet peeve of mine to watch people who are wargamers gripe about the costs of a luxury item, and then turn around and pay $55 for an XBox game that they play for two weeks, or $18 on a 2-hour movie.
-As a brief aside, I am also one of those who do not buy DVDs or games for the Wii (don't have an xbox), unless they're pre-owned. I also only go to the movies during a matinee. I don't often pay more than I think something's worth.-
The GW codex has not increased in valuable content. Instead, they've slapped an inexpensive hard cover on them and increased their cost by about 66%. That's a joke.
GW is on a slippery slope. They're losing customers. Rather than try to bring them back into the fold, and more easily attract new players, they're increasing costs in hopes that the more hard core gamers out there will keep buying and keep the bottom line from shrinking. I suspect 2013 might be the first year that does not work. Sadly, however, I have to acknowledge that I may be wrong. Mark my words, though. It's coming.
The current majority share holders (Anyone care to speculate who they are?) are keeping the stock as valuable as possible, making sure they get their dividends, and just holding on until they cash out. Once they do, they won't give a rip.
Eric

I can't speak to their business plan, but every new edition sees more 40K players arrive at our shop. Some are old players jumping back in due to new rules and armies, and others are new guys who are friends of existing players. 40K was nearly dead at the shop in 4th Edition. It got a revival for 5th, and another jolt with 6th. New kits don't rot on the shelves here.

Impressive, except for the fact that half the codex was apparently missing pages, statlines, and wargear optionsjason1977 wrote:Well my 2-3 month time frame is shot. FAQ for DA is up....NOW!?!?!?!?!? I scratched Matt Ward's face from my rulebook, as with his name, he doesn't deserve to be in there for what I paid for it

Saying that GW is smoking crack is an insult to the crack-smoking community.

Lower rating you trade first.
If I have the higher rating and I'm buying you still ship 1st. 9 year member no negative feedback if you can't trust that, then I can't buy from you.
Offers stand for 48 hours after that if no communication has passed all trades are null and void.

GW has developed their own drug. They stuff Finecast resin in a pipe and pass it around at board meetings.raspoutine wrote:Saying that GW is smoking crack is an insult to the crack-smoking community.

just to chime in, you can mitigate the pain of a 50 USD codex by ordering online, ebaying, coming here, or in my case going to your discount FLGS. I lucked out that my FLGS has all gw at 25% so i didn't feel so bad paying about 39 USD for the chaos book

Re: I am I̶s̶ ̶G̶W smoking crack?
$50 for a hardcover codex is not terrible, but I have too many armies to update all of them at $50 each every few years. This is especially true if you just want to collect a few squads and a hero from a race for fun, to use in scenarios and friendly skirmishes. I understand the argument that full color, hardback books are higher value, but I didn't want that value to be added to my perfectly usable $20 codices.

Re: I am I̶s̶ ̶G̶W smoking crack?
I think the biggest tragedy of GW is that in most major cities they opened up huge stores in the 90's and 00's...forced out a lot of smaller FLGS's whe were really seeing a reimegance of their clientel as GW brought in a new type of customer out of buisness by shorting them stock and keeping new releases held from them when a Bunker was near. (I know this happened with a number of stores in the Chicago area)
Fast forward to now and most of those GW Stores are now gone, I hear the Bunker on the SW Side is soon to go also and that will leave a GAP since the FLGS's either went out of business or stopped selling GW. Sad really.
