You are right in that IF you did not turn off e-mail notifications (I turned mine off to avoid the spam) you are getting multiple notifications. Of course, not everyone leaves them turned on and like I said, many of us turn pop ups off on our computers.
assuming that a pm sent is "post whoring" or "pissing " is, I think a bad thing because you are assuming on motives.
Just playing devil's advocate to point out that you cant actually KNOW someones motive without actually BEING that someone. Of course after seeing some point out the possibilities of those being the reasons, I can perfectly see how that can be seen that way too. So, after all that being said... like so many things in life, your damned if you do and your damned if you dont.

Having evolved to a Greater Post Whore, I see your point. ; ) LOL

For those mentioning that they have done/do it and WHY... PLEASE, don't be offended by my earlier post. I was, IN NO WAY, trying to say that EVERYONE who does it does so for that reason.

Ok, then answer this...

Why do I need a post in my ad TELLING me I have a PM?

I mean truly. I guess I could not be logged in and perusing a forum and say, "Whoa! I have a PM!". Let me log in so that I can read that!

It is true not everyone logs in all of the time, but most of us stay logged in. So a "PM sent" is really a worthless gesture. In fact, it's as useful as I have seen people "bump" their posts, as these forums don't allow it. I mean, if nothing else, to get the little red flag, make a new post and say "updated".

Posting PM sent for either purpose is wasted. Marking territory? If it is something that good and the person hasn't edited out the stuff in question, it's fair game for a PM, so pee all you want. To be a post whore? Well, I really don't care how many posts you may have when it comes to trading, I look at references. The little title that says Millennium Trader or whatever doesn't show squat about your trading practices.

It is great to be active in the community and post on a myriad of subjects to help out fellow gamers. And that is it's reward in itself. However the fact remains, and in my opinion and only my opinion, "PM Sent" posts are a waste of electrons.
Lower rating? I ask that you ship first. Also, if I offer a stupidly good deal and you try to negotiate even lower...don't call it bad communication that you didn't get a reply. I deleted the message.

Someone already said it... so that they can mark the threads for themselves.

I've been throwing in a PM sent to mark the post - it's easier to find it later as it gets bumped back three pages.

Is there a better way?

Good Day,

At the bottom of the page there is a 'Bookmark Topic' button.

Click that and it will save the post (until it drops off the forum) in your user control panel.

There is a manage bookmarks tab right there on the overview page where you can see what posts you have bookmarked.

Hope that helps.

Thank you,

If you don't have your Location listed in your User Control Panel, why not take a second and update it? It will let your trading partners know where you are from the beginning.

Lower Rating ships/pays first.

LOL

You know... had they been serious, they'd be a GREAT example of what *not* to do. : )

Considering that we get along well, I think it's a good example of how NOT to get insulted at every little thing someone says to you.

Etiquette tip #14.5: If you can read someone's post as rude or not, presume "not." It's better to give them the benefit of the doubt and be wrong than to fire back and be wrong.

While I have a lot of people's attention...

I'm wondering about how to best deal with international shipping, US to Canada. What method of shipping/tracking do people use and approximately how long should I wait to consider something has gone wrong with the shipping?

I recently shipped a package to Canada ( about 1 week ago) having no experience every shipping a package internationally prior. I went to USPS, priced the package and then the lady told me I could not get any delivery confirmation. I hesitated, thought about it, then I made an idiot move and said "that's okay". I want to interrupt my story to say that the bartertown member I've shipped to is new as well, but has been very pleasant to work with an I'm anticipating no issues with the individual. What I'm concerned about is my poor judgment of sending a package that I'll never be able to track. If it doesn't get there then we're both out the miniatures.

Anymore colorful comments from you guys!? By the way, Norseman, I read your Joe Bartle thread last night. Absolutely epic. Amazing work.

Anotehr one, if I go over and click the little PM button under your name, then this is the first line fo teh PM:

Subject: New Member, Want to Understand Etiquette

All I have to do is leave it in there and then I can just scan the PM chain between us, click on it and go straight to the thread that I PMed you about.

But the bookmark thing is cool too...............
