Questions on the "Estimated Value" Box

Post by Sandy Death »

Hi Members,
I checked the forums and rules but could not find answers.

When filling out the "Trading Refrence" form there is a block for the "Estimated Value". I always used the full retail value of what I was sending. But now I'm thinking that may not be correct.

Say I trade $200 of a hot item like Warmachine for $300 of a cool item like Warmaster. Should I enter:
A. $200
B. $300
C. $500

Secondly does our Bartertown Feedback number represent:
A. The number of trades we've made?
B. The "Estimated Value" of the trades we've made?
C. Some mathematical formilar of those two components?

Thanks Sandy

That's the beauty of an estimated value; it's all an opinion anyway.
mon·ey: noun; a good that acts as a medium of exchange in transactions.
Money is a good like everything else; if your rating is lower, you ship first whether money is involved or not.

The estimated value is what you think the trade was worth; totally subjective.

The feedback rating is calculated as such:

(+) ref: +2 points
(-) ref: -10 points
(0) ref: +1 point

In other words, we take bad trading *very* seriously here. It's easy to wreck your rating by screwing people over; by the same token one can assume it would be easy to wreck other people's ratings by posting bad trader references. However...we keep a very close eye on trade ratings and will edit or delete them as the circumstance warrants.

Hi Chief
I'm not wanting to make trouble but I'm still not clear on the first question and your answer.

The estimated value is what you think the trade was worth; totally subjective.

Does this mean I add the value of both sides (what he sent to me and what I sent to him) of the trade to come up with the "Estimated Value"? I just want to know what is correct.

Comments on the second question I had: I just completed a trade today with "Brother Ranz" and the total retail of his FoW Russians was $1000 and my Ravenwing army had a GWS retail of $750. Total = $1750.00. A short while ago I sent a bunch of Tomb Kings bits to a guy for $5.

Are you saying both these trades carry the same weight in the eyes of Bartertown? Two points!!!!

Thanks again,

Sandy

Yes. that is exactly what he's saying.
See, BTown doesn't measure your reputation asa trader by the DOLLAR value of your trades, but by the number of successful trades you've completed.
Just because one guy has more stuff than another, it doesn't make him a better trader.

Essentially, your ratings represent what the other people think of you. If you are always pleaseant, willing to barter on your stuff, you ship on time, pack your stuff well, represent it appropriately in your descriptions... THESE are what matters. THESE are what makes people happy to deal with you, not if it was a hundred or a thousand dollars worth of miniatures.

That's why it's a kind of big deal to exceed 100... and, especially 200+. That is just THAT many people you've traded with, ALL of whom consider it to have been a good experience.

Shoot... as of right now, yours is a 66. That's pretty darn good.

As far as the value, and how to rate it... do whatever you want. Average out the two, only put YOUR side of the trade's value... Whatever.
It won't make any big difference.
Generally, I use retail for unpainted/un-whatever stuff and whatever the value we traded/sold our items for if it is otherwise.

Eric
Lower rating? You ship first.

Estimated value was something I was planning on implementing and possibly weighting your rating based on the $$$ value, but I don't think anything is going to happen with it, it doesn't do anything right now.
