Have a terrain question

Post by Soulbinder »

Is there anyway that you could use wood putty on the warhammer square bases, and take your putty knife and shape rock, cobblestone, or wood flooring.. I was just wondering if anyone has tried this yet...If so "How well does it work?" and "How do you harden the putty?" Thanks folks....:)

Never tried it, but I don't think it hardens good enough for what you want. Might want to try getting some clay or green stuff. Not the GW green stuff, go to a hardware store and get the cheap stuff.

It works. You can definitely do it. I have. It will dry on it's own, if you let it sit for a day or so.

That said, wood putty is NOT well known for being exactly sturdy. It would not be likely to have a very long life span.

I disagree with IH on clay, but agree on the greenstuff.
There are also more expensive options, like procreate.
You can use sculpey/super-sculpey, but you have to bake it to harden it. So, it's better to sculpt the base and all from it, or attach it to the base AFTER you bake it, lest you smell your house up like melted plastic (this, BTW.... NOT a good aroma).

You can buy railroad modelling molds of rocks & cast them in dental plaster or resin.

Personally, though, I'd go with the greenstuff.
Lower rating? You ship first.

I suggested clay because it will cure without baking it, like you have to do with sculpey. The baking part is what I don't like about sculpey. When I say clay, I'm talking about the kind you used to use in art class.

A guy here locally uses caulking on his bases.. very messsy .. (he plays Nids and Nurgle)

But.. take a wander thru your local craft store and see what non-baking clay you find..
2+2=5 for sufficiently large values of 2.

If you don't have your Location listed in your User Control Panel, why not take a second and update it? It will let your trading partners know where you are from the beginning.

I use the Unofficial Porkuslime Trading Guidelines - if you have way less refs.. you ship first.

Folks I am awaiting a ref from.. Zack

When I need to do that, I use 2 part epoxy putty from the plumbing section of Lowes. Gives a rock hard end point. Cured pretty quickly, though, so you are only limited to a few minutes at best.

When basing a ton of things, much cheaper than greenstuff.

I've had issues with Wood Flaking when used in its inteded purpose (filling wood gaps) I wouldn't want it anywhere near my bases.
