Battle Foam
Does anybody know if the Battle Foam trays will fit in a Sabol Motor Pool case?

Buy, sell or trade....it's all the same to me. Lower refs pays/ships first!

Re: Battle Foam
Battle Foam makes three types of trays. They have a line designed to work with Sabol, but you have to buy those specific trays.
They make good foam, but their cases are too expensive IMO.

Re: Battle Foam
I own 4 of the BF Sabol Sized trays.. and did a comparison of BF, Sabol, and Outriderhobbies sabol foam for Dakka.
http://www.dakkadakka.com/wiki/en/Sabol ... Comparison
IF my local FLGS carried the BF trays, I would be buying a lot of their custom cut outs.. they are a whole lot snugger than the pluck foam, at about 3x the cost.. but the killer for me is the shipping PLUS the tray cost.
If budget was no concern.. Battlefoam in a heartbeat.
One thing.. the BF trays are 1/2 inch WIDER than the basic Sabol tray, as they have a border that allows them to custom label the tray for your army. They will fit in an Army Transport.. but there is a SMALL amount of compression.

2+2=5 for sufficiently large values of 2.

Re: Battle Foam
They are expensive cases, but it looks like the regular battle foam trays could fit in a sabol motor pool case. The motor pool case is 15" x 13" and battle foam trays are 15.5 x 12. The BF tray is just 1/2" longer, but I did not want to spend the money for the custom battle foam if it would not fit. This would be the only way I could afford to use them. I am not going to pay that much for the BF cases.HarlequinZero wrote:Battle Foam makes three types of trays. They have a line designed to work with Sabol, but you have to buy those specific trays.

Re: Battle Foam
I still can't get over their shipping costs for sending a box of foam.
I work at a foam plant. Foam itself is quite cheap to make. Plus the no round edges on custom cuts. What a crock, I might as well by blanks and cut them myself at work with the "proper" tools for rounded edges.

Re: Battle Foam
Just like everything else, you aren't just paying for the shipping WEIGHT, you're paying for the SIZE.
I had a similar issue when I bought abunch of Sabol trays.
If I sent 10 pounds in a 12"x12" box, it'll cost less than in a 3' x 3' box. UPS, Fed Ex, USPS, etc. all charge more for larger boxes.
It's unfortunate, but I wouldn't place the blame on Battlefoam.

$8 shipping on one tray is a little much.MagickalMemories wrote:Just like everything else, you aren't just paying for the shipping WEIGHT, you're paying for the SIZE.

Re: Battle Foam
This is true. One tray should fit in a flat rate box. Of course using a flat rate box to ship a piece of foam would be stupid considering the weight is so negligible, but the SIZE is small enough that the package should cost a couple bucks max. That's some kind of crazy "handling fee" there.govannon wrote:$8 shipping on one tray is a little much.MagickalMemories wrote:Just like everything else, you aren't just paying for the shipping WEIGHT, you're paying for the SIZE.

Also, just to steer back to my personal pet peeve...who at Battlefoam thought up that gigantic case they sell and decided it was a better idea to go with shoulder straps instead of WHEELS!? That case is massive and the Battlefoam claim to fame is that they can stuff more models in a case than anyone else. If you are playing ALL plastic it MIGHT be doable. But, if you have even roughly 30% of your army composed of metal models that thing is going to weigh an absolute ton. (Heaven forbid you play Sisters of Battle, Demon Hunters or ANY Warmachine army. You'd probably need a chiropractor after every game.) I mean, for the amount of money they want for that case isn't it a TAD ridiculous not to at least have wheels on it?

Re: Battle Foam
$8 for one foam IS a bit pricey.
I don't know where that cost comes from.
I mean, it WOULD be considered an oversized box.
Maybe kturock will jump in here with some ideas as to why it could cost that.
As for wheels... yeah. I agree.
I've said as much since the beginning.
Their cases are DAMN FINE cases. Good strudy construction and everything... but the carrying systems are, IMO, not the best for the big one (1520).
Teasers say there are changes and new stuff coming in the new year.
I'd be shocked if "wheels" isn't one of those. People have been asking for them since the beginning.
