Price matching

Post by govannon »

TheWarStore.com has a price matching policy, but the last couple of times I have contacted them about finding a lower price, they won't match it. Are there any other bartertown advertisers that will do price matching?

Why wouldn't they match? That sounds quite strange.

I just emailed them today about some of the Sabol empty cases on sale on the Sabol website. They would not match the price.

You gave them a fair shot, so call Sabol with a clear conscience.

my guess is they wont match it due to it being a sale. They'd likely match permament prices.. Just not temporary sales. Thats my bet!
I follow the idea LOWER references ships/pays first. It keeps things safer for anyone, as I would never desire to have to start over again. Nor would I want to loose the trust of any fellow gamers. That is how I ended up with my reference collection! I always follow through with my deal!

RED TEXT EMPHASIS MINE

Matching prices
If you find a lower price at another website, before you order just email neal@thewarstore.net the URL and the details. I will match their Shipped Price. And of course included Free of Charge with every order is our world famous TheWarStore great service and fast shipping!

Exceptions
Not many. We don't match closeout or going out of business deep discount sales, as we don't want to closeout or go out of business :-) We don't match Ebay auctions, as comparing us to Ebay is like comparing apples and orangutans. We do match established (substantial positive feedback) Ebay Stores. We only match prices with online stores - if your local store is having a sale you should grab it there! And please remember we match Shipped Prices - don't fall for the bait and switch of low ball pricing and high 'shipping' rates.

http://www.saboldesigns.net/home.htmlThis is on the front page:
STIMULUS SALE! NOW THROUGH 10-20-09 !

THE FOLLOWING CASES ARE 30% OFF DURING THE SALE

MOTOR POOL- EMPTY- ON SALE FOR : ONLY $23.49 !

DIVISION - EMPTY- ON SALE FOR : ONLY $52.49 !

BATTALION -EMPTY - ON SALE FOR : ONLY $52.49 !
Looks like this qualifies.
IMO, you should take him to task for it, if he's not willing to meet their shipped price.

Did you ask him why he doesn't stick to his word?
I certainly would.

Hmm. I take that back. As a visible presence and representation of Bartertown, I likely would NOT. As a "regular Joe," however I certainly would.
To say you will do something, brag about it across the internet and on your site, then fail to do so... That's not the practices Neal claims to follow.

Did you try joining his forums & bringing it up to him there?

I believe I would rather just deal with somebody else. I really did not start this thread to bash Neal, it was only going to be a 3 or 4 dollars difference anyway. I was mostly wanting to know about other BT advertisers that might price match. I like to buy from them for the support they give to BT.

I don't know of any with a price match.
Also - I wasn' taking it as a "Neal bash," just a way of talking about a problem you encountered & how to address it.

When I contacted him before I made my order to wayland games (UK), he told me there was no way he could match the price because of the exchange rate and that they can buy it cheaper than him. I can understand his point, he can't stay in business if he can't make a profit. But he needs to change his website to state that he will try to match prices. The email I sent about the Sabol cases was answers by one of his employees. Maybe if I called and talked to Neal, he might match it.

For the quality of service that the warstore offers, it's worth paying a few extra bucks in this case. Asking for a price match on sale items (direct from the manufacturer no less) is kind of... cheap.

Granted, it's well within the "rules" that are laid out on the war store's site, but based on how TWS has shipped every order quickly for me (and it's been well beyond a dozen at this point), and how they are probably the most reputable online store in existence, I personally would never demand price matching from them in this case.

Why don't you just order from sabol anyways?

If it was a regular item, or a sale item from a third party vendor, sure... but let's say that games workshop decided to extend it's old company discount on a discontinuing line, charge by the ounce, would you expect an independent retailer to follow suit?

I think the warstore (and other reputable retailers) deserve better than to be bothered by nickel and diming. It's hard enough making it in this economy as it is, and if you truly value the service provided by companies that provide you with literally hours of entertainment, show them your appreciation, and don't nit pick over a couple of bucks.

Always ship with delivery confirmation, I do the same.

Rating of less than 100 (or with no known traders)? You ship first (for trades and purchases), otherwise, we can ship simultaneously.

YOU must ship your package; not your wife, friend, lover, cousin, or dog. If you are not able to ship packages yourself, then please don't work out a deal with me.

I have to disagree. You're right that it's a tough economy for retailers and one way they increase the value that they offer to the consumer is through other methods like good service and discounts. I've never dealt with Neal but I hear he's a great guy. However if you advertise that you match prices then you need to match prices. It's better to take a loss in the short term and keep your word and reputation intact. I realize this is an odd circumstance but the fact remains that the stated policies of any business should be upheld by them no matter what, to do otherwise is just bad form and potentially illegal.
