Re: Dogs of War?
GW has flat out stated at several Games Day discussion panels that Dogs of War, while still valid for the moment, will never be redone. They have been hit with the "Squat" hammer.

If so, then at the moment, they're more like the Dark Eldar - still valid, but no chance of a rewrite.
If they were properly Squatted, they wouldn't even have valid rules.

Dark Eldar are supposedly ready to go as far the rules are concerned. They're just waiting on Jes Goodwin. He's in charge of totally redesigning the line and it's taking longer than originally planned. (Because of the army being redone from the ground up as opposed to having a few old items switched to plastic which is pretty much the standard now-a-days.) Realize this is all news from Warseer and the like, but it's from some of the more trust-worthy rumor mongers.JohnHwangBT wrote:If so, then at the moment, they're more like the Dark Eldar - still valid, but no chance of a rewrite.

Like I said earlier, it's a terrible shame. DoW are a great army concept. I think part of the problem was already mentioned -- they could be abused by other armies to fill gaps that were specifically designed into the army. They should've just left them as a stand-alone army, or redo them as such. They have some great models (although others haven't really stood the test of time -- see Golgfag's Mercenary Ogres), and I've always toyed with the idea of starting a DoW army.

Re: Dogs of War?
As an owner of a large DoW army, the whole thing is very irritating. DoW could be handled easily and fairly if non-DoW were required to take a DoW Paymaster *and* a DoW General (for the DoW units), and only RoRs were available for hire. At that point, there's no concern with balance.

Well I for one really hated DoW being available to other armies. Although making perfect sense realistically. Like Reegsk said...I hated people filling in the designed gaps of their army with DoW. Beasts of Chaos are not supposed to have artillery and skaven are not supposed to have light cavalry. It's SUPPOSED to be that way for balance.

And my Dwarfs aren't supposed to have Heavy Cavalry, either! Hey, on the bright side, you can still take Ogres. . .
