My personal view is thus, leaving refs should be a two-way street. There should be a system where I can go to leave a ref, submit, then the ref gets kept in limbo until the other person leaves a ref for me. That way if the other person doesn't leave a ref, then no one gets a ref. The balance is served.

There have been many topic about references. Nobody is saying the way it is now is perfect. But with how long it took to get it fixed, I say leave well enough alone.

I second this motion or something of this sort..... I just emailed (4 times total) a fellow on here not to long ago about leaving feedback after a purchase (I left positive feedback for him) and ive been ignored so far and he did open the PM.

Have you looked to see if he's even logged in since you sent it? It might just be that you aren't being ignored, but that he hasn't been online.

Hey, Galley. Not sure if you were lumping me in with the "older folks here [who] think it would be 'cheating' them." I wasn't insulted, if you were... I was just prefacing the next comment, in case you weren't, since I'm responding as if I AM in that group.

I wouldn't feel "cheated" in the slightest. It's not about that.
It's about freedoms, essentially.

The more rules we bog ourselves down with, the more freedoms that go out the window.

I WANT us to have the option not to leave you a reference ("you" being used in the generic sense).

If I had a trade with you where I did a great job and you didn't, I see it as me having 3 choices... I can leave you a negative and bomb your rating (a -10 neg. hurts... even if you're in the 500's, as it's a huge red zit-like blemish), presuming you didn't do poorly enough, however, I can leave you a neutral (If I [Eric] leave a neutral it's likely to have nothing but negative comments, though, if you did THAT poorly, thus being viewed in a negative light by anyone who actually reads it), or I can just NOT leave one. It won't help you, but it won't be a blemish, either.

Now, for the record, *I* should be used generically above, as well (barring the part where I name myself)... I DO refer to myself below, though.

If I were to decide not to leave you a ref (as opposed to forgetting -- see my sig), I would PM or email you and let you know why I wasn't leaving one. My history shows that I have no problem laying out my opinions, regardless of the Hell I take for 'em. LOL I'd also feel that, in the least, you deserve to know WHY I'd take such an action.
More than likely, though, I'd just man-up and leave the Neutral, as my PERSONAL opinion is that every trade should have a ref left for it... I just don't want to "legislate" my opinion.

I'm by no means trying to take away a person's choice. In my idea above, if he doesn't wish to leave feedback, he checks a box stating such and then the ref waiting in limbo gets nuked. That way if he wants to exercise his "choice" not to leave a ref, he doesn't get one either. Fair is fair.

As confirmed in the Neutral Feedback thread, Neutral is supposed to be +0 (i.e. "neutral").

Personally, where possible, I don't leave Feedback first. However, I always return Feedback. I think this works pretty well.

The ITL rating is an important secondary goal, because it determines how much risk you have to deal with on Btown.

If you have 100+ rating, your risk is pretty low. If you have low rating (<50), your risk is *much* higher.

Having the luxury of a high rating is very important on Btown, and largely determines whether it makes sense to trade here.

A few weeks ago, Adam told me it was fixed (It never left a -1),
It isn't. Check my Feedback and you'll see people with non-even scores. Therefore, some people are getting +1s for Neutral, rather than +0.

But still a secondary goal, or would you like to give all the money and stuff you got back to keep your feedback?

Why do we come to this site?

A. Just to feel better about ourselves as a whole so that all we have to worry about is feedback?

B. To find deals that will net us the stuff we want to continue on in the hobby of our choice for the least amount of money and to get rid of things that seemed like a good idea at the time but are starting to fight the dust-bunnies on our gaming shelves?

Sorry, I have to go with B. I have just been doing it a while and happened to come up with a decent feedback score

Argue if you want, but the feedback has just been a bonus for me. I am not giving up my toys for a feedback score.

And as for the risk factor...the risk factor attached to what? Getting more toys?
Lower rating? I ask that you ship first. Also, if I offer a stupidly good deal and you try to negotiate even lower...don't call it bad communication that you didn't get a reply. I deleted the message.

John, stop double posting. You do have the ability to edit your post.

EDIT: Neutral did use to leave a +1, no longer. The change to neutrals leaving 0 isn't retroactive.

(Seriously -- no smart-*ssery)
Did I miss the "double posting" rule? I don't recall seeing it in the rules? I'll have to be more careful, as I KNOW I'm guilty of it.
Personally, I'd prefer to see each post answered in it's own post... but I know I'm in the minority.

Back ON TOPIC:
When Neutrals went from +1 to 0 (initially), it was all retroactive.
When they accidentally went from 0 to +1 with the board switch, it was retroactive.
Now that they're fixed, the fix isn't retroactive? That kinda blows.

Are you sure it's been changed to 0? Maybe I need to run another ITL test.

Hrmmm...

IIRC, "double-posting" is reposting the same thing. I am addressing different topics to different people, which isn't double-posting.

The recent change to neutrals leaving +1 never should have occurred, so I am having problems with the way they calculate because I didn't expect my most recent Neutral to give +1 - I expected it to give +0 as last agreed and announced on the board.

And quite frankly, they *should* be retroactively reset to +0 so that people only get Positive Feedback for *GOOD* Trades..

He sent to me first during our first commission conversion. And then again on our second.... Stanislav is probably the least hypocritical person ive ever met in my life.. If he says something, he means it and stands by it himself.

And no john im not trying to get on your bad side, just giving my opinion on Stanislav.

Think about it MM, how can you make it retroactive? Let's say, I got some neutral refs 3 years ago when they counted as +1, then all of a sudden everyone comes to a consensus that neutrals shouldn't get a +1. Should the ones I got 3 years ago go away? Would that be fair? Personnally, it sounds like a Grandfather Law to me. Did Adam say it would be retroactive, or that for now on neutrals would count as 0?

@John: I actually can't see the rules right now due to the "gremlins" messing with my account since the changeover, so I may be wrong and you and MM may be right.

On a sidenote, if we make certain forums bumpable, then the issue of doubleposting will need to be relooked at. If it is an issue.
