AT-43 Questions... continue regarding Karmans, etc.

Hi all knowing ones!
Now that my newborn has arrived and we're all getting into our "routine" I've noticed that I just don't have as much "hobby time" as I used to - no big surprise there.
What I decided was I would stay with a couple "modeling" games like FoW & Malifaux, but now I'm looking into prepainted (I know, I know... *boo! *hiss!) games so that I can spend more time playing and less time modeling.
Anyway, I looked at Infiniti and wasn't much for the models, but I like the look of AT-43. My questions are:
-Has anyone played this game?
======If so, how were the game mechanics & factions that you played?
======Basically, was the game enjoyable and good for novice players as well as experienced/tactical players?)
-The models come assembled and pre-painted is this correct?
-How long has that game been around? *I've only known about it for a year or so.
Thanks!
Best,
Rik

Rik,
I have played the game.
It isn't too bad, nothing like 40K or Warmachine though. If you have a mind for rules then it shouldn't be to hard to pick up.
The starter box is a great place to well...start. It has two forces and a walk through to help you learn the system.
One of the things you have to remember is it is an I go, You go system (one of my units activates then one of your units activates), it uses cards to set up the round.
I am 99.9% certain that all the models are assembled and painted (I think they have some 'legend' models that you can buy that you assemble and paint though).
I have played UNA and Karmans mostly, I liked the UNA but recently traded them so I could concentrate on the Karmans. I have the 2000 point Cog army, but haven't used it yet, I have the 2000 point Oni army on the way, so obviously haven't played them yet. I have all the army books and most of the armies play similarly so it is really more about which models you like the best. When I played my Karmans I had limited models (though now I have at least one of every unit available), I had fun but my friends Therians ripped me apart due to not having any vehicles.
In summery - I have played the game, and enjoyed it - plan on continuing to play (though probable not again until spring) and yes the models are assembled and painted.
If you want to play a fantasy game they also do pre-painted & assembled Confontation, same basic system with a magic system thrown in.
Hope that helps a little bit.
Thank you,

Helped more than a little bit - thanks gpfredette!
I think the best news was that all the armies played similarly and it's best to go with what you like the look of, which for me is Karmans & Red Blok. I know most folks want armies that play completely different, but the problem I have with that is I then want to play all of them - even the ones I don't like the look of!
The me go-you go works - reminds me of Rezolution as I believe that's how that game works.
Well, ok maybe I'll edit my trade posts to just request the Red Blok & Karmans, although I would like the walk through of the intro box... I'll have to ponder that. My issue is getting the starter box is great to learn, but then I have UNA & Therians sitting around.
So what would be a good Karmans 2000pt list to start with, or maybe 2000pts isn't the best place to start - maybe smaller? Seems like they're pretty cheap on some of the online retailers, if I can't trade for them here that is.
*There are 3 Karman factions?
Thanks for the help!

Rik,
Actually every army has three special faction lists and a standard list. Each special faction has an advantage & a hinderance (there are some that allow vehicals to hold objectives) each also has a different platoon pattern. Platoon patterns are how you pick your army - each unit has a type (1, 2, or 3) and each platoon pattern has a priority slot, something you have to take, then 4 other slots. Once you have all 5 slots filled you can start a new platoon by taking the priority slot again and starting over.
I happen to have my Cogs book here at work so as an example:
Infantry Unit (type 1) ! - Priority
Infantry Unit (all) - any type
Infantry Unit (1/3) or Armored Fighting Vehical (1)
AFV (1)
AFV (1/3)
So you have to take a type one infantry unit to begin with, then you can take any of the remaining 4 'slots' (you don't have to choose them in order. So you could have 2 infantry units and 3 AFVs or 3 infantry units and 2 AFVs. This is the basic Cog Platton Pattern, as I stated each of the special factions has a different one plus an advantage and a hinderence.
Yes FFG is probable having a sale - I know a certain online retailer has lots of stuff on sale because Rackham decided to drop FFG as thier US distributor and do it themselves.
That is how I got a good portion of the Karman stuff I have.
I will try and get my book out in the next day or so and give you an idea of what kind of list to look into.
I hope that is helpful and not to confusing. If you want to send me a PM we can further discuss whatever you would like.
Thank you

Thank you ALL for the info!!
@ gpfredette: I will take you up on your offer -- a PM to ask questions... many, many questions! LOL
I am currently working out trades and purchases for my two favorite factions: Red Blok & Karmans, but I'm also acquiring two starter boxes (UNA & Therians) in my trades as well.
Thanks for offering to be a resource! Not sure why, but Rackham's website doesn't even have their Oni box that is available? -Strange!
I've seen ONE retailer here locally (HobbyTown) carry their products, but it's all Therians, and only two different troop types; in fact, there were only three "boxes" there to be purchased and they were $30 each! The same products on warstore and miniaturesmarket are $10 each?!?!?!!!
Once I get all my trades (and books/accessories) figured out - I will PM you for specific questions.
Thanks again - everyone!
Best,
Rik

Rik,
If Hobby Town has Therians then they can get the other factions - maybe Therians are all that sells there. Whichever distributor they use should have other AT-43 items available.
The reason WarStore has some stuff dirt cheap is due to the fact that they are getting it at a huge discount from FFG who for a while was the US distributor for Rackham, one Rackham decided to become their own distributor again FFG was left with a huge inventory of items that they are now selling to retailers (and possible the public) at a huge discount.
A couple of months ago I got a bit of money and I ordered every Karman unit I didn't have, I think I only spent the WarStore's price on 1 or 2 items and the rest were deeply discounted.
I believe I got a King Mammoth (the big flyer - normal retail is $60 or $68) for $24, just as an example,
I can't wait to hear from you so we can discuss the game in depth.
Thank you,

Ah - that explains the cheap prices.
Currently thewarstore & miniaturesmarket has super good deals, like the king mammoth for $25.
I will definitely be contacting you when I get my stuff and browse through the rulebook a bit.
I'm buying a ton of karman stuff from a Btowner, trading w/two different fellas for some Red Blok - and also 2 starter boxes (democoles?) w/the UNA & Therians - so I should have a decent amount of four factions I suppose.
I like the play system of "you go-I go" that seems to keep both players involved more than the "I move my force, then you move yours."
Thanks a lot - you're a big help. I probably won't get into this game deep enough to have specific/intelligent questions until after I get back from our Christmas trip - going to see the in-laws this year.
Thanks again
