I think alt-itis works better in MMORPGs
I think I'm suffering from the equivalent to alt-itis in 40K gaming. I collected a Tau army, now I am collecting a Tyranid army. Before my Nids are finished, I'm seriously considering swapping my Tau out for Space Marines. Alt-itis is so much easier (and cheaper) when you are playing a video game.

Right now, swapping Tau for SM (If you can find someone who will trade even with you) is a good tactical decision.
In this environment, Tau just get reamed regularly.

Totally agree with the OP and I definitely suffer from it too. I haven't really given in to it though, save for completely replacing my first army with a new one. But I'm sticking with the new one as best as I can!!

What is this "replace" concept you are talking about.. I thought 40k required you to snowball the various racial armies...
"Buy SM first, then buy Nid, then Orks, then Eldar, then Sisters, then SM Varient Wolves... while never actually getting rid of anything..and adding to the original armies when cool new minis show up.. " <- seems to be the GW line..

2+2=5 for sufficiently large values of 2.

That is the GW line, buy with our household income having gone from 2 to 1 after the birth of our daughter, I am opting for the 'swap out an army' method.

I had to prune down my collection. It was just getting too big. So I traded off all my evil 40k armies. Now I miss them... sigh...

This thread is in direct line with my trade ad.
I'm suffering from severe altitis, except mine is the more rare form known as MEQitis, where many of my alts are Marine eqivalent armies. I'm not saying that my alts are only marines, it is just that I have at least a 3 to 1 ratio or MEQ to anything else.
I've suffered in silence for many years and how just now tried to begin my healing process, but it is difficult.

I suffer from the miniature gamer's version of ADHD. I have tons of lovely painted models, they just tend to be a squad or two from every army in existence. I change armies like business men change suits.

HZ you should do what I am doing... It works great for Army ADHD. A Marine Crusading Army. You get to have a squad of this a squad of that.I suffer from the miniature gamer's version of ADHD. My Crusade Army is going to have
Black Raven Jump Troops
Imperial fist Terminators
Crimson Fist Sternguard
Ultra Marine Honor Guard
Salamander Devs
White Scars Bikers
You get the feel. The best models and the Character that goes with them normally. That way you get to do a bunch of different paint schemes for one army.
