I like to go out and hunt down yard sales from time to time. Usually can find some good things. So my question to the group is thus, "Has anyone ever found WH40k or WHFB stuff at a yard sale?"

Ohhh, baby, have I! I was down the shore maybe two summers ago and stumbled upon what looked like a flocked hill sticking out of a box at a yard sale. Seeing something like was the last thing I expected to find in this particular town. Looking inside revealed a vast selection of pre-made terrain pieces from different manufacturers, all in great condition, with some still shrinkwrapped. There were flocked hills, volcanic/lava pieces, a graveyard, some weird stone/rocky pieces and a bunch of wall and tower sections for MageKnight. At least I think that's what they were for as they had those clicky dials set into them. All told there were nearly twenty different pieces, not counting the MK castle stuff.

The magic number for all of it? $10.

Once, I found a solitary WHFB Ogre at a yard sale. He was painted to a fairly decent standard.
This was back in the late 80's.

I bought him and used him for AD&D. lol

I used to find copies of Battlemaster with those lovely fixed-pose pseudo-Empire and Chaos forces.. not recently though.

I HAVE found tons of hard to find board games though.. and then I got stuck on Saturdays at work.. sigh.

I once found an entire 40K Ork army. Probably about 3 years ago. Since I didn't play 40K, I found a good use for it here on Bartertown. I paid $40 for about 200 metal models. Mainly out of print stuff at the time, however there were a couple limited pieces which paid for itself 3 times over just in the limiteds (Gamesday Nob, GD Black Orc, and an oop Battle Wagon). The rest of the army was just gravy.

You always hear about the comic book collection in the attic that gets sold by the parents after it has gathered dust for 15 years...well, it does happen, just got to be at the right place and right time. Admittedly, few and far between.

My best yard sale find came in a bucket.

I don't know if you remember this, but from time to time, McDonalds gave happy meals in buckets, like at Hallowee'en, so that kids could use the bucket for collecting candy.

When I'm at garage sales, I like to look in things, and I saw this bucket, lifted the lid, and inside was a pile of Epic stuff. Or, maybe more accurately, "Space Marine" Epic stuff, including 2 of the three Ordinatus Weapons, a metal Warlord Titan, numerous superheavy tanks, and a pile of figs.

$5.00. Maybe less, it's been a few years.

My second best was a Heroquest box, along with the contents of Against the Ogre Horde, the Barbarian Quest, and some other hard to find bitz. Not fully complete, but still....

Not a yard sale but close. We have a Salvation Army Store Story... Seen a Bretonnian vs Lizardmen Main box, sitting on the shelf. I was thinking to myself no way. What a find. There are some nice models in that box. Looked at the price $2.50. Opened up the box and found a Steam tank 2 Regiments of Empire troops all the LM stuff from the box (badly painted mind you), and a ton of Bretonnian stuff. Probably about $300 worth of stuff all for a penny on the dollar.

I did find a bunch (10 mechs) of Classic btech stuff at a garage sale for $5.00 as well.

Best hobby find at a garage sale about $1000.00 of Thomas the tank engine rails and trains for $75.00. my kids love that stuff.

NON Hobby related...

Fisher Price Little people. the old wooden ones and plastic ones with that same body shape.
It's like taking candy from babies.

My mother has an eye for toys.
She buys (and haggles, mind you) at yard sales (Dad, too) and turns them around on feebay for some serious money.
I've gotten a number of 1e AD&D and old D&D hard back books (including MINT original cover PHB, DMG and MM1) and adventure modules from them that they bought for $1 or less.

Yard sales are AWESOME.

I spend almost every Saturday garage saling and have yet to find any gaming related items. I find Legos every once and a while. I must live in the wrong town :) I have had better luck on ebay! eBay saves time and money, don't have to drive around burning gas, hoping to find something in someone elses pile of clutter :)

Art!

Is so! It's both as a matter of fact! *mnuh!*

The missus and I lurv to "garage sail" in the summer. Most recent score (same town as the terrain) was one of those clear plastic bags that mattress covers come in filled with Bionicles going back to the original series. Magic number? $5. 8) Kicked myself as I had just bought a new *one* for the Neophyte for three times that much.

Only WH40k/WHFB thing i found at a garage sale was back in the 90's, found a couple of fantasy army books, and some skinks and bowmen.

I love going around looking for comics, old D&D stuff(altho it seems to now be all 2nd edition stuff that i own), and general cool toys.

I usually come across AD&D items Avalon hill box sets, and old video games. No GW stuff. Still hoping to find Lost and the Damned at a yard sale for 50cents :) Can always hope. Because hope changes the world. :)
