Are Bartertown and E-Bay mutually exclusive?

Last night I read through the trading/selling rules for E-Bay and I'm unclear on one particular point. If I list something on E-Bay, am I then prohibited from listing it for sale (only) on Bartertown? I'm not an E-Bay store, these are just from my personal years long collection that I'm winnowing down to a manageable level. Does it come down to making a choice between venues or can I list in both places?

There are areas in the respective categories to list your Ebay auction here as well.
For example if you look under the futuristic area you have 40k, Misc, and Auction.
You are allowed to go into the auction area and post a link to your Ebay auction.
However it is bad form to list items both here and there.
If I were an Ebay bidder and all of a sudden they were gone becuase of a trade here I'd be angry, and vice versa. If the Items I was intrested in was all of a sudden "sold on Ebay" while we were in trade talks, I'd be a bit angry for having wasted my time.

Welcome to Bartertown.
The rules for this type of thing are quite clear:
Rule #8: eBay & other Auction Sites, Stores, and Advertisements.
Any eBay or other off-site advertisements found wandering inappropriately (TBD by BT staff) will be executed with extreme prejudice. Repeat offenders will be banned from the site. This includes people who try to sneak links/banners for their stores or current auctions into their signature files. This stricture applies to off-site hosting as well unless you have specific written administrative permission stating otherwise. See rule #15 for what we consider a store.
Rule #8a: Bartertown Advertisers May Ignore Rule #8.
Bartertown Advertisers - with darker blue usernames - are encouraged to put links & banners to their sites in their signature files and post in their respective forums. Bartertown Users are encouraged to visit the Advertisers' stores and spend money there. The advertisers make BT free for you to use.
Rule #8b: Don't Play Both Sides Against Each Other
Do not post an item on eBay and post a trade ad for it on Bartertown. That is unfair to eBay buyers and especially Bartertowners. If we find out you're doing this, you can expect a month's vacation.
Helpful Hint: The community does not care about your standing on eBay or anywhere else. Bartertown references are the proverbial currency of the realm if you want to show how trustworthy you are.
As was stated you may place an ad with a link to your eBay auctions in the appropriate forum but you may not list items you have on eBay for trade here as well as specified in the red highlighted area above.
As you are a new trader if you have not please take a moment to read the rules located here:
viewtopic.php?f=44&t=45470#p83928 to better aquatint yourself with how B-Town operates.
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to message a staff member (names in Lt Green, Dk Green, or Red) and we will be happy to answer them.
Thank you,

Thanks for the clarification. I understand the reasoning but had noticed E-bay references in some posts and wasn't sure (even after a reading of the rules) what the official rules were for someone not running an actual E-Bay store. But I can see how the two could very easily conflict with each other and make things complicated. I'll give it some thought before deciding where to list but I will keep listings separate.

I'm actually not new to this forum, just gone a fair while. Long enough to forget the ID and password I used to use.
Yeesh! Looked up 'check references' under my actual name and it came back with two items from 1996. Talk about losing track fo time, lol. Could swear the last ones weren't THAT long ago, 3-5 years I thought. Hmmmm, they do say memory starts to go with age (lol).
geeez... so its now

Actually, at this point I don't have two accounts. The moderator got back to me and said he only found three references to me in the files (from 1996 would you believe) and at this time the previous account is likely long lost in the ether. So yes, I originally joined long ago but given that the boards have gone through some major changes over the years, and certainly since my last serious visit, for all intents and purposes I might as well be a newbie. So there you have it.

Actually, I have seen this before. In fact, I had to start an new account myself when I rejoined in 2003. I also have refs that go back to 1996.
He needs to read the rules because they have changed since he was on here last.
Any more brain busters?

... or, perhaps, we're up to two staff members who saw THIS thread before seeing THE OTHER.
Or, maybe they forgot they even read (or even responded) to the other because, in their diligence to read as many posts here as possible -so as to assist in as much moderation as possible- they didn't catch that the name on this post and the one you refer to was the same.
We keep busy around here, us Staff members. It might just be as simple as what I said.
