Hi,

I'm new to 40k & my trade for the rule book hasn't come through yet. I've heard in earlier versions of 40k other armies, say Orks, could "loot" other armies vehicles, say a basilisk, and use it for their own.

In the latest edition of 40k, can orks (or other armies for that matter) still do this?

If armies are still able to do this, in your opinion or from rumors you may have heard, do you see this changing in the near future?

Running Orks myself, I can help ya..

Orks now have a Heavy SUpport choice called Looted Wagon. No matter what the original vehicle was, be it Rhino, Land Raider, Monolith, or GI Joe truck.. they all have the same profile now. That is right, the Land Raider LOSES armor. Also, as standard, it is considered "open topped" but can be purchased with a covering.

It is not good. Not bad, but not nearly as good as the old "use Imperial stats, but Orky shooting skills" that it was once upon a time. It has the typical Orky Big SHootas, but also has a possible "Boomgun" option, in which case it looses all transport capacity if it had any and has an Ordinace weapon.

Whatever it was, it now has the typical Ork Mek bodgejob.. there is a chance, per turn, if it moves, to go out of control.

I only use one in my army.. carries around my Burna boyz..

If it moves it has a chance to lose control - damn that's funny & exactly why I want to play Orks. When I first started in WHFB in 1997 - I chose orcs & night goblins because -half the time (the way I roll)- they ended up fighting each other and my trolls would just stand there while getting beat on because he failed his intelligence/action roll... ah the memories - good times.

Anyway, I was thinking of trading some stuff w/this guy here on BT and his end is a basilisk, and he has an old forgeworld zappa gun for a conversion. I like artillery, so I guess I should trade for both? -of course, the basilisk already has a pretty big gun, so maybe just trade for the basilisk? It's NOS if memory serves.

I don't think too highly of the Looted Wagon, personally. I won't use 'em.
If you're collecting from scratch, there are things you'd be better off getting first. If you are the kind of guy who wants to have those sort of options available, then it can't hurt to pick one up.

The biggest thing against the Looted Wagon, IMHO, is that there are so many BETTER Heavy Support options for the Orks to take.

Battlewagons
Killa Kans
Dreads

all are possibly a much better option..

The only main reason, (and for an Ork that is fine), is I had a damaged Rhino and decided to Loot it up instead of getting rid of it. At the time, it was cheaper than a Trukk, and I could tie it in with my Marine army.

However, the Burnas in it, and being open topped, really works for my play style and opponent group..

The randomness and hilarity of Ork stuff like the looted Wagon are the only reason I would play Orks. It's no fun if you're not sabotaging yourself with bad rolls!

Yea, but even when you get good rolls the looted wagon still isn't all that great.

Heavy support choices is heavily contested for Orks. I have two LWs, one that I now use as a trukk, and one with a boomgun. The thing for me is it moves fairly slowly, and its armour is just ok. I find the boomgun gives me some much needed fire support. Kans and Battlewagons are a must have in my army, dreads are secondary, and LW would be last place. Note that I don't use any of their heavy support guns. Porkuslime's option of burnas in a LW is a good one too. I ran that for a while. Trade for it, and then worse case convert the chassis to be a trukk, and the gun to be a kannon.

I play orcs but I don't use the looted wagon because I'd just rather transport the boys in trukks (lasts about as long)....But I do use one to two battlewagons.


I actually use Looted Leman Russ's for them because the weapons options on a basic leman Russ is pretty much the same at the Battlewagon. The battle wagon model is nice and all, but right now too much money for me and well honestly I like the whole kick their butts and take their guns army
