ok so i know simple green works for metal 40k models,

BUT

what about plastic models?

i have used liquid plumer fliud once on a grey knight once and it turned out ok (i still needed to brush off more than normal)

now simple green is more powerful than liduid plumer, but which will work if any on platic models, mind you i only have to get rid of a thin layer of primer.

also i was on som hobby fourms and this guy boiled a metal dred, so i meen i know thats not gonna work with plastic, so any advice and help would be appreciate it!

I stripped an entire, 2k points of fantasy Dwarfs, with a mix of metal and plastics, using Simple Green. I just got a big dish washing tub, put the minis in the bottom, and filled it with SG until the last bit disappeared, then left it under my sink for about two days. I've been told that two days is the limit for leaving it in there, so I went with that. After the soak, it was a matter of a medium toothbrush and hot running water for about four hours (it was a LOT of models). Got them fairly clean, except for a few recesses. Then again, I was rushing to get the whole army done...there were just so many. Hope this helps!

Simple Green works beautifully so long as there are no oil based paints on the model. My tub o'goo has 3 Ogryns in it that someone painted with old Testors enamels, those boys have been in there for years and their paint is still pristine

hmm another question, ya, testors enamal crap, will it come off too?

so if i used sg on plastics it wont damage them???

I've never tried it, so I can't vouch for it, but I heard that brake fluid will work on enamels.

Here's the problem with stripping plastcis. IME, neither product stated is good at stripping plastic models that have been primed using a oil-based primer. For example, I like to use Krylon Ultra Flat Black Spray, I have had my plastic models sitting in a vat of Superclean for about a month now, the black primer hasn't come off yet. The plastic models are still good though, haven't melted or deformed.

BTW, it is no longer Castrol Superclean. It's just Superclean. Some other company bought the product.

Brake fluid will strip enamels, it will also melt plastic models if left in to long. Oven Cleaner will work the same way also.

Simple green by far is the best for plastics because you won't have to worry about them melting. However that is with water based paints and primer. Oil based, there isn't much you can do as paint thinner is usually the only way to strip oil based paints, but you won't have a plastic model left if you use it.

Metals, the best thing I have found to work is regular finger nail polish remover.

well ok, here is another pridicament, white primed serpents, um im kinda worried about the clear cockpits, i meen if i sprak it over in black (board to pecies black primer) if i respray it the 2 layers will be very thick

nail polish remover??? hmmm ill have to try that, im sure my sister wont mind!

(thats or the dreadnought not the serpents, the dred has enamal paint on it)

Use masking tape over the cockpits, and trim the edges of the tape with an Xacto knife. Protects the clear .. almost .. masks it off. This is (I think) what the body shops do with windshields..

Is there any way you can remove the cockpits? If so, do that and then get a big enough tub to put it in and fill it with simple green.

hmm, maybe ill try removing them with a knife, the tape thing might not work to well, i meen if it can strip acrylic paint then y not a thin peice of tape??

Tip: Always leave clear plastic cockpit windows for last, after you have painted the model.

Superclean and Simple Green will weaken super glue bonds. It will not weaken the bonds created with plastic glue, as plastic glue melts plastic to plastic.
