Colored Rankings are in a "advance Beta Test" if you would..

Advertisers on Bartertown are in Blue

Watchmen are now in Lt Green

Moderators are Dark Green

Admins are in Red

However.. this may change and is not a firm, fixed thing. It is not something that members can change, like Avatars.

Admin names have always been in red... ever since we started on the phpbb boards.

Recently, the extras we've initiated for Advertisers have included Custom Titles (Bartertown Advertiser), which may be further specialized in the future to dnote what KIND of advertiser they are and blue names. Advertisers pay good money to advertise here. they deserve every extra we can reasonably give them. They're what helps keep the site going, after all, since we don't have membership fees.

The green names, you'll notice, belong to Moderators & Watchmen. While we were giving colors to people, the idea came up to change the Moderator's color, too. The idea was floated to Lin, who liked it. he said to make 'em dark green and added that, while we were at it, we should make the Watch light green.

Not everyone likes it, so far. rest assured that the only things set in stone are that Admin will have Red names and Advertisers will have colored names. It might stay blue or it might change, depending on what the advertisers (as a whole) want... But, we do intend on keeping their names color to help them stand out.

As for the highest ref's... I don't know. We have a couple in the 600's, and Porkuslime is steadily approaching 700 right now... but I don't know who has the highest.

The colors denote different staff and advertisers.

They are as far as I know, as follows:

Red = Administrators (and we have two new ones which is a good thing in my opinion)
Dark Green = Moderators
Light Green = Watchmen
Bright Blue = Advertisers

I personally like the new colors. I know another user already doesn't like them. But, it is nice to immediately see which Mods, Watchmen, or Administrators are online to take care of problems.

And for us Advertisers, it lets our posts stand out a little to help maybe get more interest (and maybe even a customer).

I hope that helps.

It would seem to me neither mods nor watchmen need colored names; it not only detracts from whatever would have been special about advertisers having a colored name, but it is also rather redundant in that watchmen and mods both have titles indicative of their status on the site, typically.

Just my opinion.

So who exactly are the mods on here?

Seriously?

Scroll up, under the title of this thread, there is a link that says Moderators. Click that and you shall be enlightened. :P

Looks like we have 2 mods and 4 admin.

MM and Porkus are now admins? WTF? They were just made mods a few months ago (or less)? And NuWisha isn't an admin? Something strange is afoot at the circle k.

Ya'll better watch yourselves! They is trying to take over the site! I see your dastardly plan, MM!

Yes, it's a strange tale of rags to riches when you consider that Eric went from Mr. Moobs to site Administration.

I think it is a good idea to take the most rabidly addicted members and make them into Admins.

And I think they were moved up to mods about 72 hours ago. :-D

You know, I liked all the colors when I first saw them, but 'Sid might have a point that too many colors might detract from the advertisers and the administrators.

If you can see my plan already, then it's time for me to call in the hounds. I hope your life insurance is paid up.

NuWishA (and I'm ONLY guessing) probably wouldn't want to be an Admin and will, likely, laugh at me and Jim for taking on the "hassle."
God knows he's been a Mod long enough... and would do a good job, if he could find the time... but his current... position... keeps him busy as H3LL.

As for the colors... they are a bit "Skittles" as someone said. We (staff) are discussing it privately. There are bound to be growing pains when changes like these occur. Eventually, everything gets ironed out, though.

As for me and Jim... I've been Staff for about 6 months... but that was (partially, at least) by choice. I was one of the original people who asked for a "Watchmen" group, but never asked to join. I knew I couldn't give the site the time I felt it deserved from me. Once I got a position @ work where I COULD do it, Lin and I talked, and he made me a Watchman. Jim had been a member forever (and I'm sure he can fill in more personal detail if he wants) and was bumped up to Watchman shortly after I was.
Soon after that, we hit a "rough patch," where it seemed like all the staff had taken an extended vacation. Jim and I were doing a lot to maintain the site... as much as our User Permissions would allow, and taking a few bulls by the horns, in addition.
It was obvious that we needed to increase the Mod staff and, due to the IMMENSE amount of time that the 2 of us are available, and our desire to "do good by" the site, Lin promoted us... that was about 2 or 3 months ago, IIRC.
Recently, it became obvious to a number of us that a bunch of things needed fixing... but there was nobody to fix them. Lin was approached on behalf of a few of us to see about adding a new Admin. I (and I think Jim) actually suggested another staff member for the position that I (we?) thought was a good idea, at the time, but who ended up having no interest in it.
Jim and I were willing to help, but circumstances were against us both when it came to being able to do it alone... but -being a good team- we realized that we could do it together. Lin liked the idea, and here we sit.

So, there's your BTown history lesson for the day, kiddies.

Something that would be neat, would that a specified color for trader names that you've traded with previously (ie left positive feedback for). Not sure how (or even if) feasible this would be, but it would an added visual cue when sifting through the forums.

@ AJC... not really feasible at all. Someone would have to write all new code to plug int the phpbb software. At the point, we just use patches that others have made.
Since the ITl is an entirely different system than the bb software (and was a bear for Adam to even make compatable), it means him spending many, long, hours on something hedoesn't really have the time to do.

@ Ironhide...

What's wrong with the ITL?

Can you change the Check Reference link at the top to the new link?

from this:
