New Forum Layout?

First off, I can't see or post in certain forums when logged in now. Bartertown Information and Messages being one of them.
That said, one of the options in Porkuslime's thread is a discussion and OT forum. Why not just go and combine the Warhammer40k site with this one? The way it was in the beginning?
Another thing, we're going to let 26 votes decide the layout of a thread with 15000 members? Albeit some are not active members, I still think you need more votes than just 26.

The WH40K site is, essentially, non-existant at this time.

Is anyone else having this problem?

I'm pretty sure it's just me. Every time my WH40k site account gets "fixed", the other side of the coin goes south. It took me awhile to get that side fixed so I'm not going to complain to much.
And no, the 40k side isn't non-existent. We lost some of our following when the site went down for about a month, but they're trickling back.
I'm only suggesting it, because they are essentially on the same server and would probably make updates go smoother since most of the problems seem to occur because of conflicts between the two sites. I think a well constructed discussion forum is essential to a trading site, some people may not like the abrasive side of DakkaDakka, but you've got to admit that a lot of stuff goes through their swap shop.

Ah. I had no idea that the WH40K site was back up. Last I heard, the prognosis about it EVER getting fixed was not good.
I don't know of ANY staff member who disagrees with you about the need for a stronger "discussion" area. Unfortunately, though, that process will take slightly longer than other changes.
I'll mention your issue to Adam and see if he can figure out what's going on.

Well i hope we go with a B-town discussion forum, not a Warhammer40k site one, there too many horses backsides on WH40K,some of them are even Mods, whilst we don't always agree on here,b-town to me anyways has a friends sort of style to discussions.
Also you can't force people to Vote on something, the people who care will take the time to vote.
Cheers

Horses backsides? You're going to encounter those on any discussion site. Especially ones with teenagers on it. To think that the same type of atmosphere you have in the current forums is going to extend into a discussion/OT forums, is a bit too optimistic. People tend to disagree a lot more and discussions can get really heated. There's a reason the old discussion forums went away. Nobody was using them because they were too restrictive and lame.

You can disagree without resulting to flame wars, especailly without Mods being the flamers, and admin taking no notice,i don't think that would happen here, atleast i hope not.

Everything I've seen makes me believe that you're incorrect in your assessment.
The majority of people that I've spoken with didn't even know they existed. Sonce BTown was a "trade" site and had 2 "discussion" style forums, they thought that was it, essentially. They didn't see the link at the top that said "Discussions."
They only went away when Adam transferred from the phpbb 2.x to the 3.x.

I disagree. It was my understanding that the old discussion forum was dropped because it didn't get much use and we already had access to WH40k; which is a discussion site on the same server and uses the your same username and password. Putting a discussion forum on here is redundant. Especially if it just because the perception is that it will be just like the trade boards (i.e. all happy and flowers everywhere). Anyone who actually posts on discussions sites will understand where I'm coming from. Heck, Dakkadakka has way more mods than we do and they can't keep people in line over there. In fact, some of the problems come from their mods.

I completely disagree with a discussion area here being redundant. No offense to the guys on the sister site but there's no comparing that place to Bartertown. What qualifies as a discussion over there is some nonsensicle stream of single word story game. The people here seem to be by and large more mature and more willing to discuss things intelligently and rationally. I've tried to go to the 40K site many times over the last couple of years but it's just not for me and to say that Bartertown doesn't need it's own discussion area is a disservice to anyone here that wants a real opportunity to share ideas and banter rather than call each other names and start flame wars. I'm sure we might have bumps in the road from time to time but at least there could be a road...over there it's like driving in a mine field filled with angry teenagers.
Again, nothing against that site or those people (or teenagers for that matter) but we tend to keep things more civilized in general and I think a restructured discussion area here on Bartertown would be very welcome, especially by those of us that used to use it in the good old days.

Well, the silly one word games are gone. Been gone since the last update. I personally don't see the discussions over there as any worse as some of the discussions I've seen over on Dakka. A lot of the younger crowd use to be a lot more immature but are slowly getting better. Which would increase a lot more if we had some more mature people over there. After all, you're going to encounter a little immaturity in any discussion board. Especially since the whole gaming industry is mostly geared towards the younger crowd, but with more mature people setting the right examples encourages them to act accordingly.

I think the difference maybe be that we interact with each other on a level that other forums really don't, and that's we trade with each other, even send each other stuff for free,at cost to ourselves, which i believe fosters a difference attitude, that your not going to get on other sites.
Cheers

What you gonna do though, when some of the new traders get on the discussion forums and start acting like immature idiots?
