I've been out of the gaming scene for about 4 years now and I'm just coming back. I see a lot of posts about having Black Library stuff for trade.

Haven't heard of this before, just wondering what they are? Are they the novel series?

Also, feel free to slam me with noob comments, I can take it =P

They are/were the Publishing Arm of Games Workshop, dealing with fiction. At one point, I think they were (slightly) separate entities, but now they are part of the GW umbrella .. the last known webaddress I had for them was
http://www.blacklibrary.com and that now just takes you to the GW main page.

Although, if you DO go the GW main page, at the bottom there is a "Our Partners" link.. follow that and you get to the main Black Library page.. I suggest you look around there..

Some good books.. some meh.. some serious stinkers..

Dan Abnett books are ALMOST always good, some have been so-so,but the inquisitor books are great as are Gaunts Ghost Novels.
The first 3 Horus books are really good too...after that there ok.
and the Cain novels are awesome too, abit of a black adder rip off,but still good

Do you like it?

Thanks Steve. I just finished the latest Caiphas Cain book (Cain's Last Stand). They were enjoyable books. The first one was the funniest, but as you got into the characters it didn't matter as much that it wasn't quite as funny. Although, it had moments throughout.

I have been spending more of my hobby money on Black Library books than anything lately. Now I just need a copy of Mechanicum and Titanicus.

I have heard that Mechanicum takes the Horus Heresy closer back to those first three books. Although, I thought Legion was pretty good. I won't comment about Battle for the Abyss...  :( :(

Even though I no longer play GW games, I still read certain authors from Black Library. Abnett is one of them. I got Mechanicus for an Xmas present. I finished it in 2 days. I am not a super fast reader, but not real slow either. I couldn't put it down!

Anyway, good stand alone book from the 40K Universe, that if you read any other Abnett you will definitely see some tie-ins later on.

Are you sure you are not talking about Titanicus? That is the one by Abnett. Mechanicum is by Graham McNeill.
Personally, so far Abnett, McNeill, and Mitchell (Cain, Scourge the heretic) have been VERY good authors. I have thoroughly enjoyed all of their books.

The books are good in general.

Some are simple pulp Sci-fi and are not really reading more than once (or even finishing)
Some are meh and the only reason to finish the book is for one character. (Battle For Abyss in my oppinion, I actually wanted to know more about Mhotep)
Some are great, Everyone has different oppinnion on the authors. (I'm not all the partial to Abnetts Style, Most of the books I've loved have been McNeill)

I just started to read Mechanicum, The only reason why I put it down was because my car was finished in the shop.
Other books I recommend
Storm of Iron - McNeill
Conquest of Armageddon - Green (I loved the IG extraction team)
First 3 of the Horus Heresybooks ( Horus Rising, False Gods, Galaxy in Flames ) - After those it has been hit/miss

The only serries books from Abnettthat I enjoyed from beggining to end were the Eisenhorn trilogy.
Then again, this is all personal opinnion.

I think Storm of Iron was awesome also, but I likes my Abnett!
