A feedback question.
I was wondering what the general consensus was on leaving feedback on getting bits from the "I have ALMOST FREE bits. No cash or trade needed." section was. I have no problem leaving feedback for getting bits for a task, but I was wondering if there was an accepted method for this. As I'm in the process of completing a task and don't want to stiff someone on feedback when completed, nor get stiffed myself. (not that I expected to though) Just wondering.
Thanks,
Greg.
Thanks,
Greg.

Re: A feedback question.
The thought of that thread was for folks to "Pay It Forward" and GIVE away bits in return for something silly. The expectation at the time was that the bits were provided with NO intent to recieve a reference.. as doing that would pad someone's references who might be nefarious.
Having said that, I personally HAVE left positive kudos for folks I have gotten bits from, especially if the situation was .. funny, or courteous, or REALLY generous..
Just because, say MM, sent me some needed bits, does NOT mean I am obligated to give him a reference at all.
I think, that if YOU feel the other person met your needs in a funny way, was great to deal with, etc.. sure! Leave something nice for them..
However, sending bits and asking for references is a bit frowned upon.. that thread is really JUST a giggle factory with cosplay fun thrown in..
I certainly don't think that that thread should involve a 2-way reference... the giver should NOT provide a reference to the donatee..

2+2=5 for sufficiently large values of 2.
If you don't have your Location listed in your User Control Panel, why not take a second and update it? It will let your trading partners know where you are from the beginning.
I use the Unofficial Porkuslime Trading Guidelines - if you have way less refs.. you ship first.

Re: A feedback question.
I agree with Jim. I have given some bits to guys in that thread. I have gotten references for a few of the "Pay it forward" donations I have made and there were some who didn't. I don't mind at all. It's all about the thread on that one. Just good fun.
I have left references for the guys I have gotten stuff from (but I have fairly specific wants, so I thought the references were a good thank you).
I WOULDN'T expect a reference from the guy who is sending you stuff.

Re: A feedback question.
a followup.. there is no "standard" way of indicating how to leave feedback.. My memory is that I DO make some reference to PIF or free bits in the reference.. but, I could be off..locust wrote: I have no problem leaving feedback for getting bits for a task, but I was wondering if there was an accepted method for this.

Since I'm the 'tasker' that locust is performing a task for, I'll just mention that I don't expect feedback for this.

Re: A feedback question.
Good call, Don.
As the OP of the thread, just for the record, I started it with the intent that I could help some people by just PIFing them some free bits. The "Funny task" was an add on to make you bits monkeys dance for me! LOL
I never intended to receive ref's for them, and I don't expect ref's when I give bits out, but I have no problem* with people giving ref's when they get the bits.
Shoot... I honestly expected that thread to be LONG dead by now. I had NO idea it would grow and morph into the bloated monstrosity that it has become. LOL That one thread has more posts than most forums here... and more than a few of them combined. LOL
Other than that, what the Jimster said.
Eric
*"No Problem" assumes that the individual receiving the reference is already established and did not REQUEST a reference. Giving away free bits is a crappy way to establish a reference and worries me about the givers intent (if he asks for the ref).

Re: A feedback question.
Thanks for the response guy's. As this is my first foray into that particular area I wasn't sure how to go about the reference issue. I didn't think any feedback was required, but I figured I'd check with the community at large to confirm that.
Thanks,
Greg.
This was kinda how I saw things in that thread, but it's always good to check.porkuslime wrote: However, sending bits and asking for references is a bit frowned upon.. that thread is really JUST a giggle factory with cosplay fun thrown in..

Just for the record, no reference was asked for. It was my way of saying that I don't have a problem leaving a reference as a thank you for the bits.MagickalMemories wrote:

Those "free" bitz are being paid for via service in lieu of cash or goods. You should leave Feedback.

Re: A feedback question.
That wasn't the intent when the idea was started. It just looks like you (as in the person ASKING for a ref) are trying to pump up your references. Finding a pic or modifying one takes absolutely nothing but free time and is a lot to ask someone to leave a ref for. However, the people that do respond and go through with the free bitz thing lead to happy trades in the future.JohnHwangBT wrote:Those "free" bitz are being paid for via service in lieu of cash or goods. Lower rating? I ask that you ship first. Also, if I offer a stupidly good deal and you try to negotiate even lower...don't call it bad communication that you didn't get a reply. I deleted the message.

Re: A feedback question.
Yeah... but that's just my OPINION. The only "rules" for that thread are posted in the first post.
I won't change it to say no feedback should be left.
If John WANTS a ref, or wants to leave one, I won't fault him for that. Though I disagree with the opinion, it's his right.

So, it's just like always. You can leave feedback if you want to, but it's not an obligation.

I'll even go so far as to say that, while it's OKAY if you choose to, you probably shouldn't (in more... or MANY... cases, at least).
My thought is that, while I wouldn't have a problem with someone like JohnHwangBT getting the ref, "JoeSchmoBT" (with his NEW membership and 0 rating), suddenly giving out a bunch of bits and pumping his ref up into the double digits worries me.

Then "JoeSchmoBT" should post his own ad in the Bits section and do a legit trade.

Others have done this very thing specifically to pump their Feedback rating up, and it has been a recommended ref-building strategy.
