Question to Moderators

Post by bluemeenie »

So I sent this question in PM back on the 28th of Oct and never got a response so I'll post it here. :)

This is directly from the PM I sent so I qouted it. (** stuff in red I added just now)

Ok, So I read the rules section and I have just a simple question on consigning myself out. (**no I'm not a whore :P)

This is the first time I've tried this because I really just liked to paint for myself, but with the economy I need to make extra $$.

I don't have a professional website like the others up there, and though I don't paint slow, would probably take a bit to get people to try me...So I guess my questions is, is what do you charge for someone in my situation just starting out to advertise on a project basis?

I mean at first I would probably only want to start out 1 thing at a time..would you charge a % of the sale?

I can give you links of my personal work if you want to verify I'm actually a decent painter and not some smuck who thinks 3 colors is a good job.

I would ask if you sent it to Linrandir, but if you sent it to any of the Mods, then they probably sent it on to Lin. You might want to contact Linrandir directly though. He takes care of the advertising here on Bartertown. Do try to be patient. I am sure that Lin and Adam are working on the ITL and Lin probably gets a TON of PM's daily.

If you would like, PM me and I can go through advertising costs. I can also give you pointers about starting up (although, I am relatively new to this also).

You could probably "shark" some jobs out of the painters wanted threads (like some other Bartertowners), but those threads have been few and far between.

I hope this helps and like I said, if you want more specific information, PM me or probably any other more established painting company on the site and I am sure that you can get some answers and help.

You already made the right move by asking about it first. Good luck.

Kudos to you, Karl, for helping the enemy... err... I mean "competition."
LOL

As for prices: There is a newly published post by Linrandir on this very topic:
viewtopic.php?f=44&t=74080

Since you're new and don't believe that you'll be getting a lot of work at first, you might be put off by the costs. Don't get disheartened. This is BARTERtown, after all. While the RATES might not be negotiable, the form of payment might be.

No. He won't take payment in chickens, canned meat or week-old vegetables... but he MIGHT advertise for painting credit in trade. Never hurts to ask.

well, from reading the advertisers post you linked, I have niether a storefront or have been in buisness for 6+months :)

I'll deff. check out the painters wanted thread (didn't see that one) and maybe hit up some of the more established guys to see if I can commission myself out for them, after they see some of my work.

I know I've seen some of the ebay sellers doing this as I contacted one guy to compliment him, and his reply back in converted english was "Ill pass it on to the painting dept" I'm in sales... hahaha

I take it from your response adunaphel..that the painting forum is for lookers only, and you should not create a new topic as a painter there looking for work.

You don't have a FEEbay account that's 6+ months old?
established eBay account (minimum age 6 months with no less than 95% positive feedback)
You don't have to have been PAINTING for 6 months... just have the account that is that old or more (per the rules).

Also:
references, or something similar.

You haven't painted for anyone before?
Know anyone on this board who's already established?

Even if not, keep in mind this little disclaimer that still doesn't make it impossible for you:
It is, however, very rare that an issue of authentication arises.
Good luck with it.

Why not go ahead and post some images right into THIS thread? I'm sure that SOMEONE out there is AT LEAST as interested in seeing them as I am.

Yah I do have an ebay account and have 100% pos. feed back. (sorry misunderstood the rule)

I have done some stuff for friends at very low cost but that is about it, but as you can see I'm new to the boards and don't know many people. I got turned onto it by a buddy that comes here every now and then.

I am actually talking to one of the advertisers about giving me a chance to help them, and am going to prove myself.

I didn't post pics cause i thought that would just be a shady way to advertise on the sly and I really didn't want to break the rules. I do have a few pics of finished stuff I've worked on and would PM them to you if your that curious :)

edited to clarify a bit...

I watch, man.

Still, though, you won't get any flak if you post the pics in this thread. If a Mod or Admin has a problem with it, they'll just remove the images and *I* will get the flak (since I suggested it).

I doubt anyone will have issues, though. In spite of our pet peeves, the staff tends to be easy going, by nature.

Well, since you posted the images via photobucket, I won't see them until this evening, if I manage to get home from the polling place.
Regarding the camera, however... That is an important piece of the set up. YOu have to be able to take decent pics, if you want people to buy your stuff.

What kind of camera are you using?
Does it have a macro setting?
