How About an Update

First, let me say I am NOT trying to piss anyone off. Traffic at Bartertown is way down. I believe part of it is due to the rating system not working for the last two months or so. This brings me to my question, Can whoever is in charge give us some kind of update as to when the reference system will be working? Are we talking a day, week, month or year? Any kind of ballpark estimate would be greatly appreciated.

Honestly, I haven't been coming to the site lately just because I can't stand the new layout. It's such an ass pain to try to read now, everything is the same colour; it's difficult to tell where one post ends and where the next begins.

Well Lin, that's bad when you're admin staff and even you can't stand it........

I'm all for chucking this whole thing, as I was back in the very beginning and going back to the way that it was.

This is getting ridiculous now when even admin staff are throwing their hands in the air.........

Isn't their anyway to fix this without going through Adam? Something's got to be done. This whole "lets start a new Good trader thread on every single person" stuff just ISN"T going to work. There is nothing keeping from blatantly abusing that entire system of reference keeping.

I'd really hate to see this site fall off to the wayside, which I think it will by the end of the month if nothing is still fixed.

Agreed. That is the same reason that I check the site every week or so and do not have much interest anymore in adding to the conversations. Not that I was a rampant poster with the good old style, but I would jump into threads here and there. I've gone from checking the site multiple times per day to checking once on a weekend, when there is nothing else for me to read on other sites. I would never say to change things just to appease me, but maybe a user preference layout is a possibility? I hope so. I'd really like to come back to the community.

If the only reason you're not coming around anymore is because of the layout, then change it.

Click on "User Control Panel" at the top. From there, go to "Board Preferences" and set your style to Subsilver2."

It's almost a perfect recreation of the old boards. I had it that way for a while but, you lose some of the goodies of the new boards if you change... and I like the goodies.

I also don't understand how people are having problems telling the posts apart. Mine have a white line in between each post, the blues are different shades of blue on alternating posts, and regarding this:
This whole "lets start a new Good trader thread on every single person" stuff just ISN"T going to work. There is nothing keeping from blatantly abusing that entire system of reference keeping.
It's no more easily abused than the ITL. Aside from a Watchman or above, who hads editing abilities, what abuse is it open to that the ITL isn't?

Don't get me wrong... I agree that it is far inferior and I look forward to the ITL returning, as well... but I find it an acceptable alternative in the interim.

MM... Thank you so much! I wish I had bitched about the site layout weeks ago. I had no idea that option was even there. This layout is so much better for me. Thanks again.

Glad I could help, CiG.

Truth be told, though, that fix was posted about 2 weeks after the change over. LOL

See... If you hadn't abandoned us so easily, all your problems would have been solved sooner!

Emailed Lin and received the following response.
Email was dated 9/7/2008 with a time stamp of 6:55 PM Central.
Adam will be posting the rebooted ITL tonight. He was having trouble with the "send a PM when a reference is posted" thing and decided to scrap it for the time being. This information is current as of ~2 hours ago when we spoke. :-)

Yeah, well. I appreciate the sentiment.
I have NO interest in the headache, however.
(Plus, all I did was email Lin and post his response)

And... Don't get too excited, yet.

I clicked on "Post a Reference."

Uhhh... let's hold off on this one for a while, post references later
No change, yet.

It is cool to see that something is in the works. I just noticed that a person rating number is no longer next to their username.

Foolinjected that might be cause your using the other layout MM was talking about to Sid.I can still see rating next to username.Subsilver2 is a way better layout ,except for that.

Thanks fitterpete. That fixed it. I liked the colors and layout a little better but not over seeing peoples rating.

Darn, I was hoping things were changing, now!

thanks again.
