help with paint

ok this is just a general question i just started a nid army and i got a couple of boxes of stuff i was following the paint scheme in WD 341 june 2008 about the new foundation inks and use them to paint the minis anyway i painted the flesh areas like it said then inked it then repainted it like it said but the color doesnt look like the color in the magazine can one tell me what i did wrong

It might help if you post pictures. Without seeing the mini, it is hard to tell you what went wrong.

But, yeah, without photos to see "where you went wrong", there is not much we can do to help you.

With photos we can probably help.

in the magazine the color looks lighter than what it does on the model and if thats the case what would be an easier color scheme to paint nids

I'd have to look at my WD 341, but I believe the ones they showed were done with the spray gun.

I've never used the new washes or inks but comparing the picture in WD 341 to your pic I'd guess that they actually thinned their a bit (considering their coat is much more even and the recesses are much darker. It may even be 2 coats of thinned ink in their pic. Yours looks kind of blotchy compared to theirs and I think that might be the cause. That's just my 2 cents but hopefully osmebody with some experience wit hthem will pipe up about it...

Most inks you shade with water. As I said I haven't used these new ones but I'd say 95% chance you'll be fine with water.

Water will thin your ink and your paints. I have found that with Citadel paints a little water will help. I almost always add water to my inks (they are too much otherwise). That might be your problem.

Do not thin your inks with water... use a solution of 25% Future Floor Wax and 75% water..

This will break the surface tension of the ink allowing it to flow into the recesses of the model.. you also need a very good base coat the more even it is the better.

I suggest priming with a spray can ... and using thinned down paint for your first layers before the inks...

Hey Darksoul,

I had read where floor wax would help with the surface tension on Citadel paints but I hadn't seen anything about the inks. I might have to try that, although thinned with water the inks work very well (at least for me).

Nickman, you might have to go back and hit your larger areas with the base color after the wash.

By the way, Darksoul, what happened to Dora the Explora?
