Bad Trader Forum, Locked threads, and closure

Hello Fellow Bartertowners,

I have a question or two about the locked threads in the Bad Trader Forums.

Let me start out by saying that I understand why they have been locked, but my problem is that I am not sure if relevent information is being lost because they are locked.

Let me explain.
Take Hinantafanboy for example. I know that the Mod's have locked the BTR that cmarruda88 had posted about Hinantafanboy. I know that the OP had to take a vacation (because of douchebaggery  ). I know that HFB admitted he was guilty of slow shipping.

But, whatever became of it? I know that Lin and the Mod's would reopen them if relevent information came to light. BUT considering both characters, do we really expect them to contact anybody to let them know how the transaction worked out?

The reason I ask is that I have had contact in the past with a trader who had his name on a BTR and because there was no closure on the thread I didn't really know how to proceed. Unfortunately (or fortunately) I just politely informed him that I wasn't interested.

There was also one where the OP maybe had two accounts going and there was a LOT of speculation as to who was really the bad trader.
Since it was locked there is NOTHING to show who was at fault.

I will be honest, I tend to steer clear of traders who end up on the BTF, but I am willing to let bygones be bygones if there was some sort of closure to the threads. I realize that ultimately it is down to each individual to decide whether they want to pull the trigger on a trade, but it seems to me that locked BTRs make that decision more fuzzy because of the lack of information.

It's just something that I have been thinking about and wondering if I am just out in left field or if there are other Bartertowners who would like to know how some of these "bad traders" had their trades end up.

Sorry for the long post. If I am somehow missing something I would like it if a mod or well-informed b-towner would point me in the right direction.

Karl

I've wondered about that myself, you never know what happened about the trades.

If something new happens with them, the OP is supposed to PM one of the mods or hell, the watchmen would work.

They let us know, we open it for them.

NuWisha has the jist of it.

The OP is supposed to bring anything new to light so that it can be updated.

We lock those thread for very few reasons.

One the thread is closed because it was resolved.

Two the thread was derailed due to rampant threadjacking.

Three the thread turned into a flame war between the OP and the 'bad trader' (or others).

Anytime the thread is locked the OP or the 'bad trader' can PM us to add new information.

It is then left open for about 24 hours to see if there is going to be a rebuttal from the other party.

Now of course this has NEVER happened except for TICKNOR! That is the only thread to be reopened due to NEW information.

The rest get forgotten or dropped by the OP and bad trader (usually due to one of them, or both, getting a permanent vacation.)

IF the trader in question that you are concerned about is on a BTR... PM them! It NEVER hurts to ask them about it.
Their reaction should tell you how to proceed.

If they get an attitude, I'd walk. If they provide you with an answer then read it and take it from there.

If they never responded to the BTR and they are actively trading.. .then asking them about it MIGHT open their eyes to something and the trade MIGHT finally get resolved!!!

Win win for you!
