what would you do with incorrect payment procedures?

here is a copy of my payment procedures from every ad i place. i keep it as a word document and then copy it to the bottom of the ad.

I accept money orders for payment. I prefer USPS money orders. If you wish to use Paypal, send me your email address and I'll send you an invoice. I accept Paypal with funds drawn from a bank or Paypal funds. NO CHARGE CARDS. NO DEBIT CARDS. NO EXCEPTIONS. E-checks held until cleared. Paypal fees have become to costly.

i even use it on ebay.
recently, i've had people send me personal checks, instead of money orders; and paypal payments funded by charge/debit cards.
my paypal account won't accept cc/dc, so i've had to refuse the payment.

my question is: what would you do to people who send you the wrong type of payment? especially those who don't send a payment type you could use/cash and the deal does sour?
would you leave a bad ref?

I personnally wouldn't leave bad feedback, some times i've bid on stuff, on Ebay and gotten alittle too excited with the deal,to read the whole add correctly, lucky for me i've always been able to work it out.
In my case, its always been an honest mistake, and i would assume its the same on traders parts here, afterall they did come up with the money.
Cheers

well that all depends.. what does your ebay listings say you accept.. let me see one.. I'll help.. as I used to accept paypal using cash, and another paypal account for debit.. and they ended up making me get an account that did accept credit cards.. and if they send a check.. and it shows you dont accept them. then you can create a buyer no payment thingy.. and choose incorect payment as an option.. or something like that. my wording isnt that great.. and it doesnt help I just got home from work..

Yea i have to agree with Peacemystic on this one... as far as personal checks... deposit them in your bank and let the bank know you want them to put a hold on the check so you don't get charged if it bounces.. it generaly takes 7 to 10 days depending on the bank... keep your items until it clears... if it doesn't clear.. then you have a BTR to file... your out your time and they tried to cheat you...

you could also put that disclamer in your signature line... then they cant say they never saw it... and make note that you tell them to make sure you read the signature line before you close a deal.. that way they know... frankly most people only see what they want to see and more than 1/2 the people never read a add all the way through... I dont know how many times people have responded to me from a add like this...

12 (NIB) Fidgets... $25.00 + shipping

and they ask me how many of the Fidgets i have and how much i want for them...

In my experience more than have the people in this world are Deaf, Dumb and Blind.. or at least just plain idiots...

Refuse the payment.
Nicely, ask them to reissue the payment in a valid form.

I certainly wouldn't leave a Negative Feedback over it.

ebay has the buyer non-payment, but what about here? i've had it happen as much here as there.

I agree with the others. I wouldnt leave a Neg. reference as it could be an accident but if you reply to them and tell them to change the payment type and then they start being rude about it then i think that would deserve a bad ref.

tough call.

If you believe it was an honest mistake, I think a neutral would be warranted.

If a check bounces, negative all the way.

Not sure what else you said. I only read about halfway through.
(LOL)

Seriously, though... don't do this.

Here's the deal, for those who don't know...

When you deposit ANYTHING into your bank account, or CASH anything AGAINST it, your account # and routing # get imprinted on the back of it, for bank use.
So, If I make the check to you & you deposit it to or cash it against your account, I now have your name, address, acct# & RT#. Know what I can do with that? I can have checks made.
I can empty your account, and then some, and leave you in a WORLD of annoyance.

Additionally...
A "hold" at a bank is only semi-reliable. I can't tell you how many times I've seen someone deposit a check, have it held, withdraw it after the hold clears, then have the check return against their account a day or 2 later. A hold is an approximation. It is not exact science.
If the receiving bank holds the check longer than normal because the item LOOKS valid, or they want to be certain it's bad before returning it, or because the wind blew in from the west, instead of the northwest... that affects your hold time.

As for fees... Wrong there, too, unfortunately, my friend. If you deposit an item that is returned against your account, your bank passes their costs for handling that item twice on to you. It's in your depository agreement. Check it out. I have never known of a bank NOT to do that.
For the record, don't ask your teller about that, either. In my expereince, over 50% are idiots.

@kturock... You're in a pickle, my friend. I don't know HOW I'd handle it.
I would NOT acccept the check. I can tell you that much. I'd probably email them and re-advise them of the limitations and ask them how they want to handle it. If they make it right, in YOUR way, I'd leave a positive, but I'd put a note in my comments about what happened... or I'd leave them a neutral.

Good luck with that, man.

@Darksoul:

BTW, the correct way to post your item is:
12 (NIB) Little People... $25.00 + shipping
The way you had it is disrespectful and just wrong. I really thought better of you!

Your mother would be ashamed of you right now. I thought we raised you better than that.

Thanks Eric you pretty much summed up what I was going to say.

I work in the credit industry....the safest easiest way to work with money is cash or Paypal.

I Have been working with paypal for years now and have not once had a problem with their service or other verified people.

I suggest you allow Credit/debit accounts to be valid options of payment. There will be less headache in trying to find another way to pay you and you will have an enforced paper trail through a reputable company. All that plus if there is a problem, you dont get charged and no one finds out your financial information.

Best of luck
PJ

Glad I could be of service. Just say that I am to banking what kturock is to the USPS. LOL
We both know what we know and, if the thread allows the opportunity, we're gonna pipe in & inform you.

"Credit industry?"
Oh, God... You're one of those...
LOL

Well, I won't comment, either way, on whether or not he should allow credit/debit. he obviously doesn't want to, so I kind of consider the conversation pointless. For what it's worth, I have 2 paypal accounts. one is a premier with a debit card & the other doesn't accept credit/debit. How you're paying afffects which address I give you.

I want to point out one thing, however:
...you will have an enforced paper trail through a reputable company. All that plus if there is a problem, you dont get charged...
I don't know what you mean by "enforced." PayPal doesn't hardly "enforce" anything. They're like a hobbled blind man with a paralyzed arm and leprosy. LOL
Plus... if there's a problem (sent money to a scammer), you are, sorta, charged... as in, "if he's already withdrawn or spent the $$, you don't get it back."

Not to pick at ya. I just know there are a LOT of people here who don't care for PayPal and they'll jump at the chance to tell you horror stories about PP. (heh heh... I said "PP")
I'm hoping to head some of those stories off at the pass by addressing it generically.

Of course I didnt mean Paypal will enforce it LOL....its just there and easy to see in case it needs to be enforced. I find it a great way to see how payment procedures are organized. As for paypal doing anything...I know they will probably just take more fees LOL.

I forgot to mention possibly getting a PO BOX paypal account if you didnt want your info going out. Damnit Eric im tired and hungry and you have to pick on me....I forgot to mention paypal is great when recieving money LOL....when sending well thats another story :P

I just wish paypal would send me free food damnit...I pay their fees but im still waiting for my damn big mac.

P.S Is there another way to easily wire money besides paypal? I havent heard of any other Net companies.

must be nice, i've been with paypal since before they were part of ebay. i've had several problems with them, but that's for another post.

paypal no longer offers the option of a personal; account to new users. why? because they make more $ off you. with a personal account, i don't pay a fee for money i send or receive.
i'm not allowed to receive more than 4 dc/cc card payments. after that i must increase to a premier account.
premier accounts you pay a per use fee and a percentage fee.

why would i want to change? for your convience? no.

hmm

Issues like this are why I have changed to USPS Money Order only. It's not as fast as wire transfer, BUT I don't have to worry about anyone trying to scam me.
