How does the "who is online thing" work?

I mean I know that if you look at it you can tell that A, B, C, and J are online, but does it time out? I mean, my computer is logged on quite a bit sometimes, even when I am not there (if I forget to close the browser). So, like does it show me "online" for hours and hours or does it time out after 5 minutes if I am not active?

There is a reason I am asking guys, I promise.

basically if you refresh the page it updates but that is about it.

and yes,as long as the browser is open and you are logged in you show as online.

That cannot be true. Because, I know that I left the browser open at home, with Bartertown open, and I just logged off my work computer to check and it didn't show me listed as "online". Unless, a power surge hit my house computer and restarted it.

It was mentioned IIRC that the system automatically logs you out after a half hour of inactivity.
