Anyone hear of the Droids RPG

Post by warlordgarou »

It has nothing to do with Star Wars. Years ago, there was a game called "Droids", put out by Integral Games. I have a copy, but can't find out if it has any value whatsoever. I was contemplating trading it, but I don't know if its scarcity on the secondary market is because no one wants it, or because it's just hard to find.

this is not BattleDroids, is it? That would be the precursor to BattleTech.. and from what I know that has some serious value..

2+2=5 for sufficiently large values of 2.

If you don't have your Location listed in your User Control Panel, why not take a second and update it? It will let your trading partners know where you are from the beginning.

I use the Unofficial Porkuslime Trading Guidelines - if you have way less refs.. you ship first.

Folks I am awaiting a ref from.. Zack

Nope, not BattleDroids. (Still kicking myself for trading off my copy of that a couple decades ago, but I digress.) Nope, it's simply "Droids" with the subtitle "A Cybernetic Role-playing game." Production values are exactly what you would expect from a small-press, early 80's game.

I find blurbs on it, like this one:

but that's about it.

Well, shooting from the hip, I'd GUESS probably not... but it's an educated guess, really.
More often than not, games that were produced hastily in the RPG boom of the 80's were a dime a dozen. This sounds to be one of those.

That being said, Judges Guild put out some of the most craptacular looking items that were VERY popular... They still fetch more than a few bucks on ebay whenever they come up... Especially the "City State of the World Emperor" items.

The first thing you can do is think about the game. Was it fun? Was there any interesting things about the game that made it something you & your whole group just LOVED to play? Did you know anyone outside your regular group who played it back then? beside your regular group, did anyone even KNOW if the game?

Those things are what contributes most to the popularity longevity of OOP items... or alternate art that was deemed too racy and not put in any of the items available for retail sale, only the few that were produced for in-house use before changin the artwork.(AD&D Palace of the Silver Princess, IIRC).

If I was you, I'd drop it on ebay and see what happens. Just make certain you use a catchy title. You don't want it to get confused with all the Star Wars auctions out there.

Hope this helps.

Eric
Lower rating? You ship first.

I think what this situation needs is some imagination.

Thanks. I was pretty sure it wasn't one of those "Holy smokes! How did you score a copy of that?" items. I had it once, played it a couple times, lost it in a move, picked up a copy in a box of random RPG stuff from some second-hand source, and forgot about it for four or five years.

I know the Judges Guild stuff does well - I sold a couple games a few years ago when I needed some cash.

The character creation rules were vaguely interesting, but IIRC, the game always struck me as something where they made a boardgame first, then tried to turn it into an RPG instead.

It was amusing - it gave real truth to the "kill things and take their stuff" schtick. Any parody was probably unintentional, but it did have neat ideas for S-F wargaming in there.

i have the old 'battledroids' 'battletech' precursor game. the only difference between it and the 1st ed of mech was the word mech replaced droids. i don't recall if there were any difference in the minis; which were then, folded pieces of cardboard.
