is there an "ignore" feature?

Is there a way to not see posts from certain members? Say there is a member you think is rude and offensive, and you no longer want to see posts by that member- is there a way to put him/her on "ignore?"
thanks

Geez.. I'm sorry ok. I didn't mean to offend you....

Seriously though, I have not found an ignore feature on the site. And believe me, I have looked thoroughly, for probably the same reason you are.

I have not seen that function on any phpbb based forums.

It is not standard but could be written as a source code modification. Not sure how worthwhile the effort would be though.

I'd think such a feature wouldn't be conducive to a trading website, anyway- most ignore features also block PMs, and this would probably cause a whole new string of rip-offs and poor trades.
"Oh whoops, I had him on block", or "I tried to PM him and he put me on block", stuff like that- seems more of a hassle for the mods.
Don't like that person? Get a laugh out of what they say, then move on.

There will be the option to ignore/friend someone in the new version of the software. I don't know the details behind it yet or if it works or if you can turn it on/off but I'll look into it.

Software Upgrade Path:
1. Trial run upgrade offline (complete!, took 3 weeks to work out the bugs).
2. Incorporate ITL/other modifications/flashchat (10% done, week or so to finish).
3. Final Upgrade (will take 3-4 hours of downtime, notice will be given as to when).

Thanks,

I agree with Aim. There is WAY too much of a chance for abuse of the system.

If someone you have ignored stats a "bad trader" post about you and you have them ignored you will not see it and will not be able to defend yourself.

If there was a way to "delay" ignore function, that would be cool. I mean, after you set up your profile to ignore XtraderX, then it would take like 7 days to kick in...or just still being able PM would work as well for the possible trading shenanigans. I would like to see an ignore function.

Not trying to be a smart ass, but you could always use your own ignore function and you know, ignore them.

Might be the train wreck syndrome. You know you shouldn't, you know you're going to regret it but you just can't help yourself.

One person comes to mind when I think of who I'd really like to /add ignore. Luckily, I have no interest in ever trading with this person so it's an option I would really like implemented.

First off, don't get me wrong... It's your life and you have to be the one happy with your decisions. If you are, then that's great.

Something just hit me, though, so I thought I'd insert my $.02.
I like the idea of an ignore function, for those who want to utilize it, but I never will.

IMO, the one thing you need to think about is missing important information. That person could have a really good/important/vital piece of information or advice, at some point, and you wouldn't see it. It may seem trivial, but imagine if you were about to send Jason Ticknor a package (back in "the day"), but didn't see a bad trader report on him because you had that individual blocked. Maybe you have an important piece you need for a conversion, but can't find? If that guy posted or PMed you that he had it for you, "PIF," you'd never know... and he might think you were just being rude by not responding to someone offering you a free gift (not that you really care what he thinks, if you've already blocked him... but, still...).

Personally, there are individuals here that I'd thought about ignoring (for lack of a block feature) in the past. It turns out that, every time, I decided it was better that I didn't have the ability to ignore them. They've had posts that I got a lot of value out of.

All that being said, this is just my opinion, and we all know what opinions are like... :) Take it, or leave it. I won't be offended.

Of course, thinking about it, it very well could be ME you're referring to, for all I know (in which case, I'm certain this post is, either, not being read, or you're just rolling your eyes  at me). I know that some people have been annoyed by my directness and others by my... umm... "high post count."
Either/or, more power to you. You need to be certain your experience here is valuable, after all.

(I do hope it isn't me, though. :) There hasn't been more than a handful of people I ever wanted to offend, and most have already been banned as scammers.)

Happy trades!

Eric

Now that you mention it MM, the iggy function would be nice if it can be used to just block links posted by people. I would love to see what you are writing, but just block your links. :)
Actually, as much as you may think stuff revolves around you MM, it is not you that I would like to block. It is not as much a single person, but a type person that I would have no problem blocking. These would be people that I would never trade with for any reason. This way I would not have to worry about forgetting a year down the road. And as much as that person may have the "golden bit" that I've needed for years, I still would not trade with that person anyway so blocking them would not matter one bit to me.
And for all those that may comment about this type of attitude... Yes, I do hold grudges, and I am an angry person.... (not really, but kinda....)
