I'm not completely sure when it it that you can see that someone has been on the site/read a PM. Is it when you're PM goes from the Outbox to the sentbox, or is it vice versa?
Thanks,
Aquila

There are a few schools of thought on this.
1) The log in and it goes to sent box.
2) The check their in box and all messages go to the sent box
3) They read that particular message and it goes to sent box.
2 and 3 are the probable answers. Several people will give their opinions but until you test it yourself there's no real way to figure it out.
** Note, this question comes up all the time and I have not seen an official answer from the site's command team. Maybe it's time to sticky this Q&A in every section of the board? Not that anyone RTFR anyway

in a test conducted by me and another member it goes to sentbox when they read the message. otherwise it sits in the outbox.

Really sorry for the double post, BUT does the PM leave the outbox for the sentbox only when the recipient has rad it or does it happen simply when they log on?
Thanks,
Aquila

If you would like to test it, Aquila, send me a PM. I will go into my Inbox, but not read it, and them make a post here. Then you can tell us whether it is in your Outbox or Sentbox.

It USED to be that it moved over if they even went INTO their PM box. It was that way for the longest time.
I don't know HOW recently but, at some point, it switched from that to the recipient having to actually read it.
I was the other user in the test done by SteveBerenyi. We've experienced it first hand.
He sent me 2 PM's. I opened one, but not the other... call it the "Control" PM.
Afterwards, he went in & looked, and only the one I opened had moved over. The other hadn't.
