Bad Traders: Banners and Stickies

Post by kbolster12345 »

Well recently it's become apparent that an advertiser on the website isn't making good on trades/purchases. There are a number of complaints about the person on the Bad Trader forum yet the person does not yet have a sticky. IMHO there is enough evidence and # of compaints for this person to deserve one.

Also the person has an advertising banner that is displayed on this site. At first I thought that anyone iwth a banner displayed on the stie should be okay. That was pretty nieve of me, I admit. I would hate to see anyone else fall into the same trap.

BTW I have not yet given this person a BT Ref but with the Banner and link to his online store I am not sure that a Bad Ref would matter.

Am I alone in thinking that both a sticky post in the Bad trader Forum and removing the banner are warrented?
If I don't get what I think I am getting you will be sending me money for me to ship it back to you. So be very certain I know what I am getting.

Also more of what I don't want doesn't make up for not getting what I agreed upon.

Either will result in negative feedback, posting of our records in the appropriate section of bartertown, and possible mailfruad. Otherwise don't trade with me.

No, you're not alone in thinking the person should be stickied. I personally agree with you. However, I do not know what guidelines the Mods use to determine who goes on the list.

I am under the impression that the Mods have more information about this trader/ advertiser's state of affairs than you or I. I don't believe they are hiding anything, but more or less keeping it in the "vault" (Seinfeld episode...) because they were asked not to make it public knowledge. This may factor into why he is not listed.

TBH, I'm not so concerned about the advertising. I admit not being very computer literate, but I spent the last few minutes (10) looking for a banner or link to his store...never found it. Has it been removed or am I just blind? The Mods have the best interests of the site and its traders in mind.

I've noticed that with all of the BTRs this person has gotten, there is very little bad feedback for people to reference. The Bad Trader Report isn't enough. If you want to influence the situation and protect other traders, post a trade reference that you feel he deserves. Don't put it on the MODs. Do your part to help.

Basically, most everyone here has been swamped under with RL commitments of one kind or another.

We'll get a sticky up in short order. The decision to cease business dealings with said store has been made and he has been notified. It is rare when such steps have to be taken, and we try to be as discreet and professional about things as possible.

So since you just confirmed "said store" and all that..

Why can't we just say the name.

Its not like its suprising news to anyone involved.

Thank you for being up front about how the situation is being handled, despite your own RL issues (babies do have a tendency to sap time ;)

Because he's trying to be discreet, as he said, and this doesn't need to devolve into yet another name calling contest.

I thought that was being silent? Or ignoring it?

You can discreetly talk about a situation to explain things. But I do believe it's impossible to discreetly do or say nothing.

*ahem* Not to sound like an *ss but, that "said store"'s banner ad still shows up. At least, for me anyway.
Trading Guidelines:
1. Lower rating ships first - even if I am purchasing.
2. If you agree to buy something, you have 72hrs. in which to pay. If payment is not received in 72hrs., I will automatically post a Non-Payment/Backout thread.
3. Refs are left upon positive receipt of goods, NEVER beforehand!
4. I accept Paypal & USPS money orders and charge for shipping AT COST. I make no profit from it.
5. I trade NIB/new models at retail.

That's because our Fearless Leader is AFK in the Outer Reaches someplace and hasn't updated. No worries, it'll get done.

Not a big deal or anything, I just pointed it out since I didn't know if it was a bug or not.

The Drop Zone should definitely get his own sticky in the Bad Trader section. This is the worst thing to happen on Bartertown since Ticknor. Regular Bartertown members will be informed, but new members might order from him, especially if they see his ad here. A shame.....

They won't see his ad here, it's coming down.

Money is a good like everything else; if your rating is lower, you ship first whether money is involved or not.

What does being a Bartertown advertiser mean, for a consumer? It might just be me, but I somewhat assumed a level of safety, buying from a banner ad from the site. Anyone else feel that way?

That's exactly what it means, which is why this thread is here. This is a new situation though. Whatever else may be, said trader had a sizeable and flawless trade history until things just sorta went to hell a few months ago.
