Veteran needs a little help

I have a question. Let me explain the problem. I was trading an almost entire wood elf NIB army for a partially painted tomb king. The problem is the person said he had 22 tomb guard. I think he is trying to pull a fast one by calling some painted skeletons tomb guard. Plus he puts two skeletons on a 40 mm base and I think he is trying to call it four models. He didn't post that the tomb guard were converted. I am waiting on a response via email.
He wanted us to ship at the same time, but his rating was 50. I told him no and I am glad I did.
If he says these skeletons are tomb guard, would I be justified leaving bad feedback and return his stuff? Of course I will have to pay the return shipping. This is the second time someone this has happened to me.
thanks
Mike

It sounds like he is misrepresenting his items. Wether he is doing it on purpose or not, only he knows that. If the trade is not what the ad claimed it was, I would have no problem sending it back. Not telling you that something was a conversion was wrong, but it really could have been an oversite on his part.
Good luck.

This could be a bad trade, but it would all depend on his reactions to your complaint. If he is cooperative or is willing to renegotiate(if you want to do so) I think that this may warrant a neutral.
A trader who has completed 25 trades should know better though.

I think the culture around here has gotten way too weak as far as bad trades. We pu$$y-foot around way too much with this crap. A guy calling regular skeltons tomb guard and saying 2 models on a big base counts as 4 is just plain deceit. I'm all for trying to get the best deal possible and I'll give the guy the benefit of the doubt because I don't know all of the facts but if we stop coddling people when they screw somebody over they will either stop doing it more quickly or just go away and either one is good for Bartertown. I'm soooooooooo sick of all of the crap on this board over the last year or so. It used to be a fun happy place and it seems like it's time to take out the trash. There are way to many problems here lately and I can't be the only one who sees it and is tired of it. If the guy tried to cheat you NUKE him with a bad trader report and don't think twice about it. I'd say at best it could be a neutral unless he ponies up some extra stuff to make up for his (perhaps honest) mistake. Ultimately what he sent was NOT what he said it would be, it's just that simple.

Read the qualifiers for a Bad Trader Report.
I think one of them says "Doesn't send what they Promised to."
It doesn't matter what THEY call it. It's what it is, much like that guy who tried to pass off the blob of putty with Hive Tyrant parts as a Hive Tyrant. Jackassery from anyone when it comes to trades is not appropriate and should be dealt with accordingly.
As far as I'm concerned you get One chance to pony up and make it right. Otherwise, the BTR hammer falls.

I traded once for an eldar army, with "a brightlance platform and an avatar converted holding two swords- looks really cool!"
What I got was a peice of plastic sprue glued on a round base (the bright lance) and an avatar which had another avatars hand hacksawed off and glued on. It did not seem to matter to the trader that the fingers were of course pointing in the wrong direction... (poor avatar mustve broken his wrist...

)
I raised a fuss, and settled for some of my money back (there were other items I needed at the time) but to this day, i wish I had left a neutral report, to warn others.
If this guy fusses about it, a negative is not only justified, it is mandatory. If it was a mistake, and he sends items, I would still leave a good, if he is helpful but misrepresented, a neutral explaining what happened will warn other traders to ask if they are "custom conversions" or actual models.
Noone wants to be stuck with an avatar with two right hands....
now chaos on the other "hand"....

When buying/trading,its always good to ask if anything was converted. What looks good to them, may not look good to you. Ask for pictures. Famous phrase-"pro-painted".
Anglacon- I think I remember that ad with the Avatar. I feel for you man.

Hmmm....did you ask for pics before sending? I just think that when any of us are dealing with partially/fully assembled/painted/etc. models, we should be asking for pics. If pics aren't provided, either don't pursue the trade or say they send first and pay for return shipping if the items are misrepresented.
Really, like everything else, it comes down to communication. FoolInjected, I can't really say whether this is here or there, since I don't know the details of your trade, but after the first instance of this, perhaps you should start asking for more detail/pics/return postage in future deals to make sure this doesn't happen again.

Thanks guys.
Yes, pictures were asked for. He showed the painted skeletons but failed to identify them as tomb guard. He didn't mention any conversions. I don't like them and would not trade for conversions.
Ancient Society,
I do ask questions. The first time this happened is when I traded an army in favor of another. My stipulation for trading in their favor was NOTHING can be painted. Well, he sent painted stuff. I thought what the **uck can't people read?
I also feel the climate has changed here on Bartertown. It use to be fun. Now I feel everyone is out to screw the other person.
thanks again everyone. I am waiting on his reply.

FI... not everyone is out to screw everyone else.
Most here are good traders. You've just had sh!tty luck as of late, I think.
I say not to even mess around with it.
Email him & explain that you are not happy with the misrepresentation of items.
Tell him you have boxed everything up and, as soon as he sends you $X.XX to cover shipping, you will send the items back to him.
If he complains, explain that you should not be inconvenienced financially for his misrepresentation and that you feel you are being kind by not charging him for your time and EXPENSIVE gas in taking these items to the post office for him.
Be clear that you will not be held responsible for items that are not insured and given adelivery confirmation number.
He has NO basis to leave you a negative ref or, likely, even a neutral. The Admins come down very hard on ITL abuse.
You could tell him that you will consider it a mistake and not leave a negative, provided that he does not earn one (with poor attitude, treating you poorly, etc). Also explain that you do not operate a storage facility and will NOT be held responsible for the items while you are storing them for him for free.
Maybe you could be kind and advise him that you WILL accept responsibility for their safekeeping for the first week (giving him time to get the $$ to you), but they are not your responsibility after that.

That reads alot like "I'm going to smash these with a hammer and send them back with no shipping if you don't send me money right now," to me.
I'd just tell him that these are not what he said they are (Though the blob hive tyrant thing Linrandir brought up makes me

) and tell him to send you back enough for return postage. And ask him to put insurance on it so its safer.
Or just the shipping to send it back... Personally if it wasn't that much to ship to him, I'd just pay it myself and send it back to the guy. Now if I had this same sort of thing happen more than once.. I'd be asking for alot more information the next time, and demanding shipping cost refunded for the return trip.

Which is why I said it was general advice. If you asked for pics and details, then this guy misrepresented his stuff and, as such, is a bad trader.
If you've been having a string a bad luck here, perhaps you should take a break? Last fall, I wasn't enjoying trading very much so I didn't come back for about a month. It's refreshing and it helps get perspective that BT isn't filled with bad traders. Sort of a vacation from your BT "job".

Thanks guys.
I do plan on taking a LONG break from Bartertown. I have enjoyed most of my trades on Bartertown but lately that has not been the case. The atmosphere on Bartertown has changed in the last six this nobody can deny.
I wish all you luck in your future trades.

Not my intent at all.
My intent was more like, "I'm not spending MY money because YOU don't know how to be honest. You have to pay for shipping. I'll keep your stuff safe for a while, but don't think you have forever to send me the shipping fees!"

Mmmm, I'm somewhat in the same boat right now actually. The other trader said his items were NIB. The problem is that they're Reaper and when I rec'd them the Swag Points (basically the top of the blister pack - which can be redeemed for Reaper stuff) were chopped off (in which case, I could order them for 50% off retail, if I were to buy from a store)
So now I'm out my own money because he misrepresented his stuff. It sucks. What can you do?
