Backout definition question

If after you agree to hold something for someone and they in turn tell you:

"Yes, enjoy the vacation, look forward to hearing from you soon."

You then ask for their address, they provide it, and you get your box ready to ship, to which they then message you and say

"Hey, I've had some stuff come up. I was made a cash offer for the Eldar, and I really need the cash. I think I need to take the cash to cover some expenses. I hope that doesn't put you out too much."

It seems they didn't take their item down, had me go through the expense of getting an item ready to ship, and then sold it to someone else.

Does that count as a backout?

Thank you for the quick reply. I messaged porkus slime, and he is helping me look at what transpired.

I don't want to name the person if he has done nothing wrong and I am mistaken.

Can this thread be removed?

Thanks.
