USPS Tracking

I now see that tracking is included with all shipments, but the number is smaller. Anyone know what the deal is with the last digits being 2 instead of 4 numbers long now? Are their some other two digits I am supposed to add to the number string to make the complete tracking code? I am super impatient to see my tracking info on packages I have shipped and always worry when it tells me I cannot search it on the site....

I went to the USPS website, put in the tracking number and it worked fine. Are you sure you inputted the info correct? I know sometimes it doesn't actually go into the system until the evening or the next day when they ship it off. When I ship from Canada to the U.S. from my local Post office they don't send anything until 5:00 p.m. (I live in a small town) so it's not updated until the evening. Other than that I cannot answer your question.

Yeah, I may just be a shade impatient. It just struck me as odd seeing as every other package I've sent has had 24 numbers... Thank you though

It might be the new system they have implemented, I too am very impatient when it comes to things in the mail. I check even when I know it's not going to arrive JUST in case it's my lucky day and it some how got to the post office. Pretty sure kturock is the postmaster guru on the site so you could always PM him for more info.

Yeah, I figure when he gets in he will set me straight. I've had a number of packages arrive prior to the date on the site as well though so that's always great. Like an early, err, late Christmas

Previously all Delivery Confirmation numbers on preprinted labels had 5 4 digit pairs (0000 0000 0000 0000 0000). Online & APC issued postage DC numbers had the extra two digits (0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 00).
I assume you just added it at the counter? No more extra green DC label?

They just added it, said all packages are sent with it now. I was gonna add it, she told me no need.

All parcels with standard shipping, what used to be parcel post, now have d/c for free.
I posted the info about that over a week ago.. see the cafe forum below.
I know when you buy postage online for priority mail, d/c's free. Same with most online postage sites, like ebay or amazon.

I had read something about it, was just concerned about the extra digits

what I thought was missing two actually has two more

Thank you everyone, I think I jumped the gun a little with my concern and have it all worked out now

the old labels are just that, old. They can still be used, if you're label doesn't generate a number. almost all online postage has d/c..
somehow, usps, decided to do the same thing that it sells to others..go figure.
the computers & scanners download at night and then the servers update overnight.

Priority mail has free DC #'s, too.
