unresolved trade that I don't know how to handle

Hello fellow barterers, roughly a year ago I made a trade of a couple hundred dollars worth of grey knights new in box about when their 5th edition codex dropped for some magic cards. Now this is where it may get a little iffy, specifically stated what I was trading but he wasn't as specific on what mtg cards he was trading but he did however mention some revised dual lands included as that was the main point of the trade for me. However he shipped a small flat rate box that was packaged horrible still sitting under my bed with the cards inside filled with borderline worthless cards with no revised dual lands at all. I tried contacting him multiple times with no response for nearly a year. Then I made another post for some of my mtg cards for warhammer 40k and he pops up out of nowhere and offers something like 3 different army one of which is the grey knights he acquired from me. So I contacted him and expressed how infuriated I was especially with offering my back my own grey knights (though he forgot that it was me whom he got it from) and asked from compensation. He emails me back saying he'll send a package out right away and then asked for my address. after he read the mail I tried contacting him again and no response. There was no paypal involved so I couldn't even have gotten my money back and there really is now way to prove physically at the time nor now of what he sent me. The only saving point I would have is his multiple btr's and him tripping up and pretty much confessing (though not directly) that he basically ripped me off and never sent me the dual lands which was not specified on which ones but was mentioned and not included. I just want him to have to get some kind of compensation out of this but more-so to prevent him ripping off more people which it seems like has been happening after he did me in. It's just I don't know how I can do this with no way to prove what he actually put in the box even though I kept it as it was and no money involved.

That's a bad spot to be in, especially with this being a year ago for the initial trade. On top of that, the lack of specifics to the trade details makes it worse. I'm not sure what the statute of limitations is for filing mail fraud, but that would have been your option if you had followed it earlier. As is, make sure you save any PM's where he admits his error just in case you can follow up somehow.

I can't really offer you any advice on your LEGAL recourse but, unfortunately, you have none here. You waited too long.

Any time you make a trade with someone, you should examine what they send you IMMEDIATELY (your message makes it look as if they sat under your bed a while). If there's a problem with it, address it on the spot. If, after a week or two, you are still unhappy with how things are, open a BTR report, and we'll see what we can do to help you out from there.
You'd be surprised.

The biggest lesson to learn, though, is about making blind trades. Unless you're happy to get a box of valueless [items] for your [items], always make sure you have an exact list of what you are receiving and provide an exact list of what you're sending.
