New member verification? Spam prevention?

With the recent increase in spammers, have the Admins of the board considered adding some kind of checkpoint to get past before new accounts can post? Maybe the account has to post in a special subforum first, that will actually prove they are real traders and not some spam account? I try to report the spam posters, but I would hope there is some way to get rid of them on the front end.

The staff is working aggressively to address this problem. It appears that we are being confronted with live posters, rather than bots, which obviously makes it all a little harder.

I don't doubt that handling this increase is taxing you guys. There are a ton of them. That's why I was asking/suggesting some kind of tier system - join, post in a subforum showing you are real and posting real stuff, then you can post in the main forums. There are other forums I belong to that use this method and it works pretty well there.

The problem is that live person is going to be able to get past that.
I have had an idea and am presenting it as a possibility. We'll see how it goes.
