At what point in time do you just say...nevermind?

At what point in communication, AFTER a deal has been struck, do you just say "nevermind" and it not be a backout? If someone says "I'll mail in next day or two" and then doesn't get back to you again, when can you just give up on it and not get labeled backout? I'm not out my money, because I was going to pay after receipt, but the other guy just isn't responding. He was supposed to mail the goods priority the beginning of last week, and nothing since.

I'll usually go 3 day without hearing from them then send 1 final pm giving 24hrs and after that I don't worry about it .

48 hours.
I'm trying to get *edit* done... don't have time to wait for slack asses to simply reply yes or no...
Especially with excuses like "oh no access to a computer , ect.ect.."

I've been there recently too:
A trader made an offer for shoota arm sets and had the option of paypal or a check (see also check hatred thread). I had been waiting for a check for awhile and now that I have sent a few pms to confirm if he still wants them OR if payment is even on the way, there's still no reply. Been... a month now?
Patience is a virtue, but that sucks if you don't want to wait too long. If there are existing extenuating circumstances or the threat of any forseeable speedbumps, it's best to bring them up in advance. I'm supposing nothing was brought up, so I'd say a few days... 5 days tops.
I would cover your bases and pm him one last time and state how you feel and it's why you've moved onto other trades. It's up to you whether you'll entertain reading any reply they send back or if you ever continue the trade as established.
What I ended up doing:
... So I sent the trader an ultimatum email yesterday and stated that we need to zip things up today by noon in fact. I know it was read and I'm just waiting to see if I get a reply by noon my time.

I'm sitting here holding onto $ for the other guy, if the package ever arrives. I could have used the money for other items, but it is tied up waiting on him. The price was supposed to include priority mail shipping and the guy stated he lived beside a post office, so I'm just a bit frustrated that he isn't replying. He hasn't logged on since my last PM on 5/21 so it remains unread. But he didn't reply to the one last week where I asked for an update on whether the package was mailed.
I'd like a mod or admin to weigh in on this too, because I don't want to be a back out or bad trader. But how long do you wait without the other trader even confirming shipment?

And as of today, PM is read, no response yet. Seriously, how hard is it to say "yep, mailed last week, I'll get DC for you" or "not yet, sorry about the delay"?

You'd think it wasn't hard at all.
As MM is out for the moment, I'd suggest hitting
gpfredette or
porkuslime up for a kosher call on this one

.

I ended up sending this to him since he got my last PM (no responses from him since May 14).

Please reply tonight whether the books have already shipped. If they have, please provide tracking information. If they have not, please let me know what is up. If I do not hear from you by tomorrow at 12:00 noon CST, I will assume you have decided to cancel the deal on your side.
It isn't difficult to drop a quick note with an update. Based on our agreement, you were going to send out by priority mail by last Wednesday at the latest (had planned to ship earlier). And if you want to back out of the deal, just let me know as well.
Let me just say I'm thankful for all of the other good communicators I've been dealing with.

definitely not. Bartertown is a great place. I've been here since the place was less than a year old. One guy doesn't ruin the site.
