This situation has happened to me multiple times now, so I reach out to you my fellow b-towners for answers. I've posted items for 40k and after receiving some interest and sending pics out I get an offer. Twice now the amount of the items has been around $400 or more, retail and I've gotten offers for about 30% of that. Don't get me wrong I'm not fool enough to think that my items are worth their weight in gold but c'mon! Just about every piece I trade or attempt to sell is unpainted an assembled. Any assistance into this would be great. Thanks..

You will get better offers by parting stuff out. For large quantities, people want really good discounts. But also, the value of something is composed of 2 factors:

1) The value you place in the item, which determines how much you are willing to accept for it at a minimum.
2) The value the buyer places on the item, which determines how much they are willing to pay for it.

When 2 < 1, one side has to give, or both sides agree to walk away.

People can buy from most online retailers for a similar price and not have to worry about the condition of the models when they arrive. I've found that 40%off retail is often hard to get.

Most onlines stores have 20-30% off, with higher discounts on old sculpts, OOP rules, over-stocks or just slow/dead games.

Some offer free shipping.

All have paid less than most of us, who've paid 70-100% of retail.

If you're looking to get your money back, good luck.
If you're looking to just get rid of it, because you pay that game anymore, trade it.
Otherwise, be prepared to get offered 50% and less.

I know a lot of people who buy big lots like that. Universally, their opinion is that you aren't required to take their offer. The upside for you is that you get to dump it all at once and be rid of it. The upside for them is that they get a huge discount.

It's even like that on feebay. Larger lots tend to go for smaller amounts than multiple smaller lots do. Those buying in quantity look for lower prices.

I suggest smaller lots. It'll take longer to get rid of everything, but your end results will be more profitable.

If I'm reading his post correctly, he's complaining about being offered 30% of value, ie 70% off retail. Don't know many retailers that offer that.

Counter offer, if they offer you $120 for a $400 retail lot, tell them you'll take $*** (insert your price here). Also, you can always posted a wnated price or how much of a discount you're willing to give in your ad.

Yhea you run into that sometimes. The above guys gave some great advice with smaller lots etc. Also your best bet in my humble opinion is trading for someting else if you feel the sales price isnt coming in where you want it. I have had tons of things that I could have sold for 50%+ off but I stick around and wait for someone to offer me a trade retail to retail and we are both happy campers

I hear ya. Based on your Btown name (Grim Angus) - I'm thinking you play WM/H & Warhammer (40k or other). In my experience, WM/H tend to sell at 40-50% of retail. In fact, that's the majority of what I've traded, is Privateer Press stuff, but I've also traded Warhammer and WH40k - those tend to "sell" at a greater % discount.

kturock, Erik, etc. have given you good advice. Split them up into logical lots, and post what you're willing to take for them - or as other's have said - state what you're willing to TRADE for them.

This site, despite the awesome 'regulars', is plagued with LOW-BALLERS, but don't let that discourage you. I have responded to low-ballers with "no thanks" or (if it's really ridiculous) "douchetasticassbag - NO WAY!!" but that response is pretty rare - thankfully!

Don't give up - you know what you want - just change your tactic a bit, or be willing to trade for what you want. There's plenty of GOOD traders that want what you have, and have what you want, or are willing - at least - to negotiate a reasonable selling price, just remember what the previous poster's have said about 'online retailers' and their discounts. Don_Mondo isn't totally off with not seeing 'THOSE' prices with online retailers - I haven't found deep discounts like 70% off either - just know your audience and what the "selling climate" is.

Hang in there bud, you'll get it!
