Questions about how BT works

Howdy,

I have a few quesions about how BT works, as hing perplex me here. It seems BT doesn't work like many other BBS systems

1) PM's: I ssend a PM off to another user, it seems to linger in my outbox forever. Does it not leave the outbox until the other user reads it? Even when the person I send to are online and seems to have lots of time to answer, it lingers.

2) Post Order: On most BB's posts are sorted many ways. When a new response it made to a post, it usually "bumps" the original post to the top. There are many other ways that determines post order, but it seems to have no rhyme nor reason., even when I make the adjustment using the choices on the board.

Thank you,
Ted

Hi.
Actually, it works like all phpbb systems. We just have some settings different than others.

Your PM remains in your outbox until the recipient (or ONE recipient, if there are multiples) opens it. Once that happens, it moves to your Sent Messages.
Knowing this, you can track your PM's, to know when they've been read.
(This answer is available in the "FAQ" link above, as well as numerous other posts in this forum <- no "attitude," just FYI)

This site is not "bumpable."
To eliminate the abuse that was rampant in the trade forums (people bumping posts every few hours, despite rules to the contrary), post bumping was turned off. It was easier to do that than to find 60 or 70 unpaid volunteers to work as staff. ;)
The rhyme and reason are far more simple than what you're looking for, I think. What determines the order is post date & time of the original post in the thread. Newest threads are on top. Period. Regardless when the most recent post was made.
If you respond to something on page 7 of this forum... the topic stays on page 7.
The only exceptions are announcements and "stickies." Announcements are in their own 'category" at the top of each forum (some are in ALL forums and some are only in specific forums), and stickies are listed first in the thread listings. They're still subject to "post order" amongst themselves, however.
So, a 5 year old "stickied" thread, for example, will list higher than any new thread, or any other stickied thread with an original post date AFTER that "sticky."
Make sense?
